A £75,000 property listed on Rightmove has left house hunters ‘heartbroken’ as several snaps detail the miserable state a once stunning cottage has fallen into
House hunters have been left “heartbroken” by the state of disrepair a newly-listed property has been discovered in.
The cottage home, which has a £75,000 guide price and is situated in Inverness, is listed on Rightmove and has been causing a stir on Reddit. A user of the social media platform shared images of the depressing listing, which she captioned: “This one actually makes me sad, it must’ve been beautiful once.”
Describing the home as a “substantial project” and one that offers a “massive added value potential”, the advertisement has 63 snaps of the house’s interior and exterior, but it’s grim viewing.
The listing states the home boasts a “total floor space in excess of 350 sq metres” and “garden areas to front and rear, with the upper floor balconies enjoying great views over the Moray Firth”. It acknowledges, however, that it is currently “uninhabitable”.
The photos show overgrown greenery to the front, and damage to fencing at the rear. The true horrors lie inside though, with each room – still complete with the former resident’s belongings – completely trashed. The kitchen and living room is almost unrecognisable under rubble, dirt and scattered possessions, whilst graffiti adorns several once neatly-decorated walls.
A broken staircase leads to further damage and while one bedroom appears to have got off relatively lightly, the others are laden with destroyed furniture, mould and expletives written on surfaces.
“Just heartbreaking,” one user penned in response. “I hope that the woman who lived there doesn’t get to see what became of her home – a home that looks [as if] it was cared for well by her. Seeing all her things, her memories, pictures, trashed and ruined would be devastating.”
Another agreed: “It’s so sad. That was someone’s home. Their pride and joy, maybe. Their safe haven and comfortable place. They would have picked that furniture out, liked the pictures enough to put them up, bought that sunflower for some colour, dusted the sides and vacuumed the carpets to keep it all nice, etc.”
A third added: “Wow what an incredible place, what on earth could have happened for somewhere as nice as that to have been abandoned?! Just heartbreaking seeing how poor the condition is now. I hope it gets restored to its former glory!”
A local resident also took to the comments section in a bid to clear up exactly how the property had found itself in such poor condition, claiming it had been vacated by someone moving into care. They said: “Local kids found out and used it as a sesh house for weeks. At £75k this is an absolute steal btw even with the work that needs done.. back in a habitable [state] this is easily worth double the current asking price. This won’t be on the market long.”
