Designer Clare Waight Keller from fashion house Givenchy describes making the royal wedding dress for Meghan Markle
The 2018 Royal Wedding between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle didn’t come cheap, and one of the biggest costs was the Duchess of Sussex’s sleek Givenchy gown.
Ahead of the big day, rumours circulated that the former Suits star would opt for a cheaper dress than the Duchess of Cambridge. But this theory was blown out of the water when Meghan, the now Duchess of Sussex, stepped out in a Givenchy gown paired with Queen Mary’s tiara.
Add to that the 16ft-veil detailed with flowers from all 53 countries in the British Commonwealth and it all came to a pretty penny.

Kim Kardashian styled herself in a Givenchy gown for her 2014 wedding costing her $500,000. Audrey Hepburn also had a similar dress.
Back in 2018, after the party and festivities calmed down people started to work out just how much money was spent on Harry and Meghan’s special day – and it’s safe to say it came as a shock, especially when it emerged that Meghan’s dress may have cost more than Kate’s.
Kate’s dress cost £250,000, but earlier guesses suggested that Meghan paid £387,000 for hers. Although this price was later decreased in reports since the Duchess’ big day.
Using Givenchy, a French fashion house, was unexpected, but Clare Waight Keller, a British designer, was not. When Meghan’s character got married on Suits she wore a $6,800 Anne Barge creation in the Versailles style.

Although Meghan’s dress was thought to have cost £387K back in 2018, it later emerged that it was rumoured to cost between £200,000 and £387,000. In 2022 however, reports claimed that her wedding dress was estimated to have cost £110,000.
