How old they died and how old they would have been:
While on the topic of age, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child celebrated its eighth birthday yesterday (July 30). It landed at The Palace Theatre in London in 2015 and more than one million people have now seen the play.
When tickets first went on sale in 2015, 175,000 were sold within eight hours. It was also one of the first high-profile plays to open in the West End.
Die-hard fans were able to register for priority tickets but the high demand meant many were reselling tickets for over £1,000. Since it’s launch in 2016, the play has run 2,740 performances in London, with 256 cast members, according to WestEndTheatre.com.
On top of that the show has won several awards including nine Olivier Awards and six Tony Awards including Best New Play – including Best New Play for both. And still to this day it is a popular choice for theatre-goers and wizarding fans.
If you’ve not yet seen yet and are hoping to, then you might want to think about booking tickets soon. While this doesn’t mean this is when the show will stop running, tickets can only be booked up to April 6th 2025.
This is the final date that tickets were available at the time of writing. The play is in two parts and most people see both sections in one day, though you can choose to come back the following day if you wish.
Depending on when you book it for, tickets start from £30 and go up to £250. They run throughout the week and during the weekend, but not every day. Show days are usually Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The play is based on the book by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany. It is set quite a few years after the final part of the films and original books and follows Harry as he balances his Ministry of Magic job with being a husband and father of three, we see his youngest son Albus struggle with the legacy of the Potter name.
Soon, both father and son discover that darkness can come from the most unexpected of places. The show is directed by Steven Hoggett and produced by Sonia Friedman Productions, Colin Callender and Harry Potter Theatrical Productions.
It currently stars David Ricardo-Pearce as Harry, Thomas Aldridge as Ron and Jade Ogugua as Hermione, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child features a dazzling set by Christine Jones and breath-taking, magical special effects from Jeremy Chernick.
