Flying can be fraught with tension but there are a few ways to make sure you get the ride of your life, every time.
Picking your seat on a flight is a serious business – do you want to get the aisle, so you can get up whenever you like, or perhaps you would rather lean against the window to catch a bit of shut-eye? Maybe you want the only benefit of the middle seat – control over both armrests.
Whatever you fancy, it’s a tricky thing to nail – but luckily, experts at Bountii have done the research to figure out exactly where on a plane will make the perfect seat so that you can make sure you’ve made the right choice.
There’s actually much more of a science to it than just aisle, middle or window – depending on where you’re flying and what time of year it is, there are a few different seats you could pick.
If you want a stunning view of the sunrise or sunset from the plane, it pays to know what direction you’re heading in. On westbound flights, choose the left side of the plane for unforgettable sunset views, and on eastbound flights make sure you’re on the right hand side – of course, having a window seat in this scenario makes it easier as well.
You should also research the route you’re flying – if your plane will be soaring above something amazing, like the grand canyon or the alps, it pays to make sure you can take a peek – even cityscapes like New York or Dubai can be amazing to see from above.
If you fancy some shut eye, or just don’t want the glare of the sun on your face, you can work around that too.
The side opposite the sun—right side for westbound, left side for eastbound—should be your choice. This holds true for sleeping as well – if you tend to lean right when you sleep upright then choose a seat that aligns with that.
Not everyone uses flying for relaxation though so if you’re more likely to spend your air time working on a laptop then consider your dominant hand. Right-handed travellers might find the left side more comfortable and vice versa.
Even though flying long haul can be uncomfortable, if you utilise these tips you might be able to make it a little easier on yourself.
