Human remains wash up on beach in Devon as police investigate

Human remains have been discovered on a beach in Devon this morning (Thursday, May 22).

The find was made around 9.30am on Thursday, May 22, at Westward Ho! Beach.

A witness said they believe that a leg had washed ashore. It’s reported that images of the scene were briefly circulated on social media before being deleted.

An eyewitness described the scene as “very graphic” and said police and a private ambulance were at the scene

The remains have since been transported to a mortuary for further investigation, confirmed by a police spokesperson to Devon Live.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: “We were notified at around 9.30am on Thursday 22 May following reports of what appeared to be human remains found at the end of Westward Ho! Beach, Bideford.

“Officers attended and have removed the remains to the mortuary for further examination.”
