Renovating a bathroom is messy, it can take a long time and it often costs thousands of pounds, so one man decided to take matters into his own hands while his wife was away on holiday
A husband ripped out the bathroom in the home he shares with his wife while she was away on holiday and it left many people saying the same thing. A bathroom renovation is a messy, costly affair with a lot of logistics to factor in to get it to the finish line.
One man decided to take matters into his own hands and completely redesign his bathroom – all while his wife was away from the house. Clayton Juarez, who posts online as The Weekend Builder, shared a video showing him ripping out the shower unit, slicing a wall in half, tiling, re-designing the vanity, and much more.
He uploaded edited footage of the bathroom transformation on TikTok, where it was set in perfect time to the hit 1999 song All Star, by Smash Mouth, which became iconic after featuring in the opening scene of the much loved 2001 family film, Shrek.
Clayton laid fresh laminate flooring over the top of the old floor in the bathroom and even installed a new, freshly tiled shower suite after successfully removing the upper half of a wall to create a pony wall feature. Over the top of the footage of him at work, he added text which reads: “POV: Your wife wanted a vacation so you renovated the bathroom.”
In the caption accompanying the clip, he wrote: “I’m gonna need some time to emotionally recover from this…”
The video resonated with millions of people online, racking up more than 8.9 million views. In the comments section, TikTok users were keen to share their thoughts, with many amazed at the relative ease with which such an extensive renovation could take place.
One person simply observed: “American houses look too easy to build”. Another said: “As someone who doesn’t live in America, it feels very weird to see this guy just ripping a wall off with his hands this easily”. A third wrote: “Houses made of paper.. I’m too European for this.”
Someone else grew tired of these types of comments and said: “Yes guys, we get it. American houses are paper [sobbing face emoji] y’all say this every damn renovation video, I’m surprised you’re still shocked by it.”
Immediately below this comment, another person said: “American houses being made of paper shocks me every time.”
And another shared: “All the non-Americans saying how cheap and easy American homes seem… wait till you find out how much they cost. It’s not just healthcare that’s a scam here.”
But others were impressed with the work completed and the high quality of the finished result. One person said: “Everything about this is impressive, down to the editing.”
Another quipped: “So.. she gets a vacation AND comes home to this?! All I got when I was married was weaponised incompetence.”
Someone else asked: “Do you have a tutorial for other husbands to learn??” Another confessed: “I’d be way happier with this than a vacation.”
And another said: “Where can I buy a man like him????” One TikTok user simply commented: “Your wife is so lucky.”
