A man has shared how the fence at his new house has been ruined by a surprise visitor who ploughed through it – an image of the culprit left the internet in stitches
A man made a shock discovery after investigating a commotion he heard in his back garden.
Posting on Reddit’s r/mildlyinteresting forum, he shared a snap of the culprit. The animal appeared on his lawn after breaking through two fence panels, and was seen munching nonchalantly on grass in its new surroundings.
“Didn’t expect a tortoise to bust through my fence today,” the Reddit user declared. “Just bought my house, and he just wanted to come give a friendly welcome to the neighbourhood. Tortoise is unharmed. Neighbours were super friendly. Big fella just wanted at my grass. He’s safely back in his own yard now.”
The man added: “The fence is already jacked. Cracked me up cause I was outside with my ISPs tech getting a line ran to the house. Heard a loud crack and saw that big boy plow through.”
Some Reddit users couldn’t help but poke fun at the incident, with one joking: “Need a new fence anyway. Tortoise is just letting you know its time.” Another quipped: “To be fair, you just bought the house, he started his run up ten years ago.”
A third penned: “He finally achieved ramming speed after some 50 years of trying and you weren’t there to witness it.” And a fourth person said: “You should put in a tortoise door so he can come over whenever he wants. It would be like having a cool pet with none of the responsibilities. And he gets a new space to explore. Win-win!”
Other Redditors explained that tortoises can be rather destructive. Speaking from experience, one person said: “Sounds exactly on point for a tortoise. Those dudes just don’t care what’s between them and where they’re going.” A second agreed: “Can confirm. Have two tortoises, they are the most stubborn, determined creature to walk the face of the earth.”
A third detailed: “That’s a Sulcata. They like to burrow and they are stubborn b******s. I own a tortoise and they definitely prefer to go through rather than find ANY way around. The shell on the tortoise looks amazing. It seems like an incredibly well kept tort.”
Whilst a fourth user recalled: “My buddy had one that he closed in a room when people were over because he was an extra friendly tortoise. I was there sitting on his couch… and suddenly we hear these loud bangs, and the wall started to crack. He bulldozed his way right through.”
