A woman has claimed she waltzed into her sister’s house without asking – and doesn’t see anything wrong with her actions because her husband owns her sister’s house
Doing a good deed for someone shouldn’t have any strings attached – but for this woman, it did.
If you do something nice for someone else in their time of need, you shouldn’t expect them to pay you back or bend to your every whim after the fact. But one woman has claimed she should be allowed to enter her sister’s home whenever she wants without asking, purely because her husband owns the property and allows her sibling to stay there without paying rent.
The woman explained her sister became a mum at a young age and although it was “unexpected”, her family have been supportive of her. To help her out as a single mum, her brother-in-law has allowed her to stay in a rental property he owns without paying, as long as she follows some conditions laid out by her sister.
In a post on Reddit, which has been deleted since it was originally posted last year, the woman claimed: “She got pregnant unexpectedly in high school and me and my parents have been very supportive of her. My husband owns a townhome complex that he rents out and we decided to let her live in one of them rent free, since she’s in college and we want her to focus on that.”
However, the offer was not made with no conditions attached. “The only rule I had for her was to not allow her baby daddy to move in. The guy is very much bad news,” as the older sister explained.
Unfortunately, the couple suspected the man was staying at the house without their permission, and things soon came to a head. Having noticed his car parked in the drive several times – and allegedly being ‘lied’ to when she asked her younger sibling about the matter – the sister took it upon herself to investigate.
“My sister went out of town and this is where I may be wrong but I just needed to just see for myself, so I used the master key and went into the house and it’s pretty clear he’s living there,” her post revealed.
Furious, she confronted her sibling and they ended up in a ‘screaming match’. Explaining the argument, her post continued: “She was mad I went into her home without permission. I told her she needed to start paying rent or I’d be evicting her. My mum is on her side and said it was unnecessary that I went into her home when she wasn’t there.”
It was then that she turned to the internet, keen to find out who was in the wrong, but commenters struggled to come to a consensus. Responding to the post, one person wrote: “She knew the rules, she broke them. She can pay her way, or live by the rules. It’s a simple concept really.”
A second agreed: “Your house, your rules.” But another thought: “You had no reason to go into her home. You’re trying to control her life and that’s not ever going to work.”
