A man has taken to social media to seek advice after admitting he faked his own death as he wanted to know how his girlfriend of four years would react to the devastating news

A prankster who ‘faked his own death’ to see his girlfriend’s reaction is seeking advice after their relationship turned sour. The 28-year-old says he went MIA (missing in action) for two weeks, making his closest loved ones believe he’d died in a horrific accident.

As expected, his loved ones went into mourning, making him feel valued. But only now after revealing it was all an “elaborate joke”, he is worried he’ll lose the “best relationship” he has ever had as his girlfriend, 26, no longer trusts him.

He said on Reddit: “I recently made the most regrettable decision of my life by faking my own death as a prank. I know how it sounds. I thought it would be a big shock followed by relief and then laughter. I genuinely believed that it would be seen as just an elaborate joke, but the reality was far worse than I could’ve ever imagined.

“My girlfriend of four years has been supportive through thick and thin, and I can’t believe I put her through the emotional turmoil of thinking I was gone. For two weeks, she grieved, she mourned, and I saw the posts she wrote about me online. I came clean after realising the deep pain I had caused.”

He says she has become “distant” and is reevaluating their entire relationship, saying she “never thought he was capable of something so cruel”. She’s still in shock and hasn’t given me a clear answer about the future of our relationship. I love her deeply, and I can’t imagine my life without her.

“I know I messed up on an epic scale, and I’m willing to do whatever it takes to make it right. I’ve already started therapy to get to the root of why I thought this was a good idea in the first place.” Seeking advice, he added: “But how do I approach this with her? How can I even begin to make amends? Is there any coming back from this, or have I irreparably ruined the best relationship I’ve ever had?

“Any advice would be greatly appreciated.” One user commented: “There’s no going back, there’s no fixing this. This is grounds for lawsuits bad.” Another user added: “Weeks! That’s barely excusable if it was two minutes. What is wrong with people?” A third user said: “I think he should be more worried about the criminal charges because I’m pretty sure faking your death is illegal. Especially if the police and life insurance companies got involved.”
