A woman was left feeling as though her husband had ‘cheated’ on her when she realised he’d been looking at pictures and videos of women who didn’t look like her
Many people have a ‘type’, whether that be tall, curvy, blonde, or brunette – but what would you do if you caught your partner looking at photos of people who were the opposite of you?
One woman was left gutted, saying that she felt as though her husband had had an “affair” behind her back when she found “hundreds of photos of strange women” and “porn”, all featuring redheads. When she “confronted” him because she felt hurt as she’s blonde, her husband claimed that he didn’t know why he’d decided to keep all the photos – and despite his reasoning, she still felt as though he’d “cheated”.
Writing to Dear Deidre for advice, she shared that she’d been married to him for 10 years, and they have young children together, explaining that she’d stumbled upon his “fetish” while looking for a “family picture” that was on his laptop.
After she’d seen the photos, she couldn’t help herself and went on his browsing history, which is where she was met with the “porn” he’d been looking at. When she confronted him she said: “He swore he loved me and thought I was beautiful, and that he would stop.”
She shared that now, when the pair are intimate, she can’t get it out of his head that he would rather be with someone with a different shade of hair, and it was making her feel “ugly” and “unwanted”.
“I’m now paranoid whenever we’re out together and a redhead walks past”, she admitted, wondering whether she’d ever be able to get over what she perceived as a betrayal.
Deidre reassured the woman that just because her husband “fantasises” about redheads, doesn’t mean he thinks any less of her, saying that it seems like the “hair colour” rather than particular “women”, saying it was more of a “fetish” than a “type”.
“Tell him how this has made you feel and suggest couple counselling to work through it and rebuild trust”, she recommended to the woman.
