Fat Face’s suede fisherman sandals are giving serious Dr Martens Wrenlie vibes, and they’re almost £90 cheaper and comfortable from the very first wear with no breaking in

Summer is all about sandals, and this year’s trending style is undoubtedly the fisherman sandal. One of the first brands to hop on the fisherman sandal wagon was Dr Martens, with its Wrenlie Sandals priced at £150. For those coveting this pair and looking to save some money, Schuh currently has them on sale down to £109.99.

However, if you want to save even more Fat Face’s Elodie Tan Brown Fisherman Sandals are even more reasonably priced at £65.50, and have a very similar look. I couldn’t resist getting my hands on them to see if they lived up to the hype.

First things first, they’re incredibly well made. The Elodie Fisherman Sandals are made from real leather with a soft, flexible suede finish that means they don’t rub or cause blisters, even from the very first wear.

The inner sole is also made from real leather and has a soft cushioning to it which means you can wear them all day without aches or pains, as it helps cushion the impact of each step. My only real gripe is that the leather sole does leave your feet feeling a little sweaty when it’s hot, although the cage design allows for quick cooling down.

They fasten with an adjustable buckle around the ankle which has a good variation of holes so you can fasten them as snugly or loosely as you need. The platform sole is also fab for giving you some extra height, and is flexible enough to move with your feet when you’re walking.

The perfect combination of chic, quirky and androgynous, fisherman sandals are easy to wear with anything from barrel leg jeans to flowing boho midi dresses, so whatever your style you can seamlessly incorporate them into your wardrobe. Although they’re trending right now they have a timeless charm that means you could wear them for years to come.

If you want something that looks a little more sophisticated, the Ida Fisherman Sandals from Mafalda come in both burgundy and green leather, and have a leather caged design with a narrower, squared off toe. Alternatively the Willow Fisherman Sandals from Free People have a softer, more rounded silhouette with leather straps and a choice of three colours.

Meanwhile at Schuh, Vagabond’s Ellis Fisherman in Brown are on sale down from £130 to £89.99, and have a similar suede cage design as my Fat Face pair. However rather than a platform sole they have a low block heel, which makes them perfect for wearing for things like summer weddings or dinners out.

However for me, Fat Face’s Elodie Fisherman Sandals are a definite winner. They’re lightweight and comfortable, and look expensive and trendy whilst still being timeless.

As they’re a new launch, they currently only have five reviews, but every single one is a glowing five star rating. Praise ranges from how they “feel like air” to “the best sandals I have worn in years” – and I have to say I agree.
