For years, people have complained about the rising prices of Advent calendars, but each year I opt for a £14 option, and I personally think it’s better than leading brands like Cadbury
One of the best parts of the festive season is opening your Advent calendar each morning and, even though they are super delicious, some people are always looking to snap them up cheaply. In recent years, people have complained that the prices of the chocolate treats are increasing, which is something that has been noticeable during recent Christmas shopping trips.
However, over the last few years, I’ve come to believe it’s perfectly normal to invest in a £14 Advent calendar. As well as, in my opinion, being much tastier than major brands like Cadbury, I actually think it’s reasonable when you look at the other options on offer.
Naturally, everyone will have different budgets when it comes to buying Advent calendars, with some people having several kids to keep happy, and it’s no secret that the cost of living hasn’t dropped either. However, if you’re happy to have a treat, and can afford to indulge, I don’t see the problem with a bit of expensive chocolate.
Personally, my favourite Advent calendar comes from Hotel Chocolat. Priced at £13.95, it is a bit pricier than other brands, but I honestly think the chocolate is the best. Smooth, creamy and never sickly – it’s the perfect treat if you like proper grown up chocolate.

Not to mention, I have a dark chocolate fix, and Hotel Chocolat offers one that is totally made up of my favourite flavour, so it’s a bit of a no-brainer for me.
As well as being super delicious, the chocolate is also vegan. While I’m not vegan, I think it’s great for people that this is offered, and I’d assume this is probably reflected in the price, so it’s worth the money for the work that goes into making it so tasty.
Not to mention, when compared to other brands, I really don’t think the price is a big deal if you’re going to opt for an indulgent flavour anyway. I thought this as I browsed the options at my local supermarket recently.
For example, a Ferrero Rocher Advent Calendar comes in at £17.50 online, which is a lot pricier again. Lindt offers more basic options that start from around £7.00 but go up to around £85.00, depending on the size and what’s inside.
In other words, there are much more expensive options you can go for. And, if you’re going to go really wild this Christmas, beauty advent calendars out there can set people back hundreds of pounds.
And, while these wouldn’t be for me, I think if you want one that much and can afford it, then go for it! The calendars will always evolve and become more bold, fabulous and expensive, and people should enjoy Christmas in any way that want to.
However, when it comes to the humble chocolate Advent calendar, I personally think it’s worth investing in a luxury chocolate if you can. After all, you have to munch on it every day up until Christmas.
This doesn’t mean I disapprove of the cheaper brands though. I actually like Cadbury’s chocolate and, when you can pick up a calendar for as little as £3.28, I totally understand why it’s the most justifiable option for some people.
It’s nice, reasonably priced and most people like it, but I just don’t think there’s anything wrong with having a little treat at Christmas. After all, if you can’t overdo it during the festive season, when can you?
