A mum has taken to social media to ask for advice after admitting to ‘mom-shaming’ her friend over her baby’s feeding habits, and it’s safe to say people have very mixed opinions on the matter

It’s common for parents to engage in friendly competition over their children’s milestones, and it’s even a well-known comedic theme. Attempting to outdo another mum by boasting about how many words their little one can utter, or trying to gain bragging rights because their baby can walk independently at nine months.

This can sometimes create a pressure cooker environment. A first-time mum has shared how her usually cool composure was shaken when her friend continually bragged that her baby was feeding and gaining weight effortlessly, while her own struggled to keep any milk down.

Instead of taking the moral high ground, she chose to shame her friend, serving up revenge in a way that her son could easily digest. Spilling the beans on social media, she penned: “My friend and I had our kids a month apart. My son had feeding issues from the get-go. Wouldn’t latch or wouldn’t drink from the bottle. We had to go from one specialist to another. He dropped from 50th percentile to 5th,” reports the Mirror US.

“I was crying and in distress. I felt like a bad mom all the time. I kept updating my friend about this situation. Her baby, on the other hand, drank a lot of milk and was growing in percentiles. She kept sending me charts from the doctors showing that he increased a few percentiles more every time they visited the doctor and the doctor was praising her for the progress.

“When she came to visit me, she would brag about how much her baby weighed like it was a prize. I was happy for her baby, but this was putting more mental pressure on me. Finally, when my son turned 6 months old, his digestive system got better, and he started drinking more milk.

“When he turned one, he started eating so well and caught up in percentiles. My friend’s son, on the other hand, became a super picky eater. He wouldn’t eat anything and would throw really big tantrums at mealtime. I thought I’d take some petty revenge, so I took a video of my son finishing his whole plate of rice to send to her and told her that I’m a proud mom.”

“I’m a little ashamed of my behavior since it involves two innocent kids, and I wouldn’t do it ever again. But, I just had to do it at that moment.”

Reddit users were left in stitches over the mum’s candid admission, quickly chiming in with their own tales of parenting woe. One commenter praised her approach: “Honestly, as long as you don’t keep going I say this is exactly the amount of petty she deserves for that. Not to mention it doesn’t directly involve the kids in the argument/expose them to it. Well played, you!”
