‘I put up my Christmas decorations early and there’s a reason you should too’

It’s 37 days until Christmas, and I’ve decided to put my Christmas decorations up super early this year. But, there’s a good reason for it, and I think that you should do it too…

This year, I’ve decided to put my Christmas decorations up earlier than I normally would. When people decide to do this and post it on social media, for no reason whatsoever, people tend to descend on the person who’s done it, calling them ‘crazy,’ telling them to ‘get a grip,’ or worse. But, if you have social media, you’ll know that you can’t please everyone, so it’s best to just please yourself!

The reason that I’ve decided to do it extra early this year is that my birthday is six days before Christmas, and my partner’s is three days after mine, so we often don’t spend the build-up to Christmas in our own home.

So, when we put them up at the start of December, we only had a teeny tiny window to actually enjoy them. And they look so beautiful, so it seems a shame not to get the most out of them.

Plus, with all the negative news in the world at the moment, I wholeheartedly believe that if something so small as Christmas decorations can make you super happy, why wouldn’t you put them up earlier?!

It isn’t hurting anybody, it isn’t offending anybody (and if it is, it’s on them!), so I really don’t see the harm.

Plus, many of us spend a lot of time at home, so it’s a simple and easy way to brighten your day without having to spend any money (provided you already have a tree and all the decorations).

People can mock all they like. Putting up the decorations is a fun and enjoyable activity in itself, and admiring them with a glass of mulled wine is even more enjoyable. Or, if you’d prefer, a hot chocolate.

You can blast the Christmas tunes, have a boogie around your living room, and just let your hair down.

Plus, when Christmas adverts are on and Christmas markets are in full swing up and down the country, it’s pretty impossible to avoid the fact that December 25 is getting ever-closer. So, if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em, I say!

It makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside to unpack all the decorations that you’ve collected over the years – especially ornaments that mean something to you and your family.

We unpacked baubles we collected from holidays over the years, ones my friends had made for me, and of course, would it really be my tree without some Jellycat decorations? I think not!

We even bought a fresh wreath to go on the door at a festive makers market, and we’re the first house on our street to put one up! Just call us trendsetters!

So, if you’re feeling like Scrooge and need a pick me up, I urge you to haul out the holly.

Turn the Michael Buble, Mariah Carey, and Kelly Clarkson up full blast, and let the spirit of Christmas lift you up. You won’t regret it, I promise!
