A man has been labelled as a “genius” after giving up his day job to set up his own unique business. Adam Chandler believes he is spotted a gap in what is seen as an over-saturated wedding market, and now hopes to rake in the cash from his unusual concept.

With so many small businesses applying their services to the big day – from photographers and caterers to florists and DJs – you’d be forgiven for thinking every base has already been covered. However, 33-year old Adam, who left his previous position after 12 years, has now adapted his favourite hobby into his working life, which he detailed in a TikTok video.

“I quit my job to take Scalextric to weddings, birthdays, trade shows, corporate events etc,” he began, showcasing his own setup at home.

Scalextric is a brand of electric slot car racing sets that has been around since the 1950s and arguably peaked in popularity amongst children in the 1980s and 1990s.

Adam continued, explaining that his track cost around £1,500 to build and features numerous accessories to provide a realistic-looking race setting.

“You can have six cars in two lanes and cars changing lanes all around the track,” he revealed. “And you can simulate weather conditions, and you can have mandatory pitstops.”

But what sets it aside from other Scalextric sets? Adam revealed that he has applied technology to the idea, using an iPad linked to a screen allowing players to have their names and even profile images on show while they race. “It has their [race] positions and times too,” he enthused.

For corporate events, meanwhile, Adam explained that branding and marketing information can feature all around the track. “We can brand the pits, the stand… I’m looking at getting another TV, which will have micro-cameras that will simulate a Formula 1 broadcast,” he added.

Adam closed: “If you are looking for something for your wedding, birthday, trade show… I am looking to take this somewhere very soon.

Writing in response to Adam’s business plan, one TikTok user declared: “You know what, you might be onto something there, good luck bud.”

A second person admitted: “You have surprised me, watched you from the start. You’re smashing it, really think you have something.”

An excited third person praised: “Okay I’m showing my HR this for my work Christmas do.”

Whilst a fourth TikTok user added: “Lights out and away we go with a BRILLIANT idea! Better wedding addition than a sweet cart that’s for sure.”

And a fifth simply said: “Absolute genius!”

Adam later shared a follow-up video in which he showcased a race event having finished his setup – complete with bridges, barriers, chicanes and even spectators watching from the grassy track-surround – only adding to the realism.

With an idea like this in place, you can be sure no wedding guest would ever be bored.
