A woman has denied her boyfriend’s request to get matching tattoos as she isn’t a fan of his design idea – but he now believes she’s planning to dump him and doesn’t love him
Tattoos are a big commitment.
If you’re thinking of getting a tattoo, you should consider the design carefully before you book an appointment – unless you’re not worried about regretting it further down the line. Having a tattoo removed is a costly procedure, so it’s better to be 100 per cent happy with your ink choice in the first place.
One woman is trying to explain this concept to her boyfriend after he suggested they get matching tattoos, as she said she doesn’t want to do it because she’s not a fan of the design idea. The woman said she would be happy to get some sort of matching ink with her boyfriend, but he’s got something very specific in mind – tattooing each other’s names.
In a post on Reddit, the woman said she isn’t keen on the idea of getting her boyfriend’s name inked on her body, as she felt that anything could happen in their relationship, which has only been going on for just over a year.
She maintained that she would only ever get her twin sister’s name tattooed and perhaps a future child, as they are people she will have in her life forever, no matter what happens.
But her boyfriend wasn’t happy with her answer, insisting that it must mean she doesn’t have faith in their relationship and is even planning on dumping him in the near future.
She wrote: “I told him we can still love each other very much without having each other’s names permanently on our skin. I just feel like it’s a stretch. And you never know what could happen in the future. It’s just a waste of money if we end up breaking up.
“My boyfriend took it as I think that me and him will break up soon and I don’t love him like he loves me, but that isn’t true. I just don’t want something to be stuck on me when that person I thought I’d love forever turns out to be the one I no longer love.”
Commenters on the post were firmly on the woman’s side, with many telling her she has the right idea and encouraging her not to let her boyfriend pressure her into doing something she doesn’t want to do.
One person said: “Tell him a good way for him to show you that he loves you would be to stop pressuring you to do something you don’t want to do.”
While another added: “If he wants a commitment indication, tell him to do what I did for my wife 42 years ago: shell out a couple of thousand dollars for a diamond ring.”
