Even adults can be petty when it comes to sharing their birthday cake, with one woman revealing she was forced to put a dessert ban on her pregnant friend as she felt she had eaten too much

A mum has asked for advice on whether she is in the wrong after admitting she refused to let her pregnant friend have any birthday cake. Sharing the incident on social media, she explained that for her birthday her husband had put on a BBQ for their friends and their kids.

She wrote: “They live two houses down from us. It was only us, our three children, and them here (and their three kids). I spent about $90 (£71) on hamburgers and hotdogs. Matt also showed up with 2lbs of hamburger. While the guys cooked, I went swimming with all the kids in our pond. Jane sat near the guys on her phone.”

After several hours the food began to be dished up but the birthday girl and her son weren’t hungry yet, so carried on in the pool for a bit longer. She went on: “Around 6.15pm-ish my husband said that he was going to make a store run for beer, so I told my son that we should probably go eat now.

“My husband and Matt are gone by the time we get up to the grill, and so is Jane. Well, we get up to the grill, and all the food is gone. Literally everything. I called my husband and asked him where all the food was and he said that it should be on the grill. I tell him that everything is gone.”

It soon transpired that Jane had asked if she could take some leftovers but he had assumed it would be one or two burgers, not everything that was left. She continued: “He then tells me there was at least eight burgers and 10 hotdogs left, as well as macaroni salad when he left for the store 10 minutes prior.

“I tell him to call Matt and see where tf all the food is. He does. He then calls me back and says that Matt claims Jane only took ‘a few’ and that they had already been eaten. But my oldest son (13) straight up tells me he saw Jane walk off our property carrying the entire dish, one of those extra large tin foil BBQ dishes.”

Naturally, the woman was annoyed, especially as it was her birthday and she and her son hadn’t had anything to eat. Vowing to let it go and not say anything, she was left stunned when Jane returned and asked if she could have some birthday cake.

She wrote: “I tell Jane that her kids can but she can’t. She asked why and I said ‘I’m pretty sure you’ve eaten plenty considering you took off with my entire BBQ dinner before me and my son could eat anything’. She tried arguing that my husband told her she could have it, that ‘half of it was hers’ (cause they brought 2lbs of hamburger meat) and that she ‘didn’t realise’ me and my kid hadn’t eaten (she was beside the grill the entire time).

“I just shrugged my shoulders and walked away. She tells her kids to ‘let’s go’ and they leave without cake. Now I’m feeling like I may be the a******. No one has said anything but I know there’s tension.”

Despite Jane being pregnant and pleading her case people reading the Reddit post had little sympathy for her. One person replied: “Who leaves a party with all the leftovers and then has the gall to return for more?! It’s not even considered ‘leftovers’ until everyone has eaten. So really, she just took all the food.”

And another user added: “I have never of heard of taking leftovers home before the party is officially over. This chick knew what she was doing and didn’t think she would get s*** for it.”
