A kind-hearted animal rescuer saved 11 cats from a ‘kitten mill’ one month ago and recently took to Reddit to share before-and-after snaps, showing just how different the felines now look

A good Samaritan rescued 11 cats that were riddled with mites and had rotten teeth – they now look transformed.

Taking to Reddit to share before-and-after snaps of the felines, the rescuer – who lives in Russia – explained the cats all came from a “kitten mill”.

Kitten mills are facilities where cats are mass-bred and often treated poorly. Sometimes, kitten mill cats are forced to breed until they are no longer able to, at which point they are abandoned or killed. Their goal is to produce purebred kittens, but inbreeding in these facilities can lead to a number of health problems according to Petful.

The Reddit post explained the cats, nine of which are Munchkin breeds, were rescued one month ago. The before snaps show the felines cooped in small cages, looking scared and dirty. In the after photos, they are all cleaned up and happy.

Taking to the comments section, the rescuer detailed the harrowing state the cats were in, and what has been done to them since they were saved.

The cat in the first image has had “rotten teeth” and a “finger with a tumour” removed. She was also sterilised and treated for both mites and mycoplasmosis – a bacterial infection.

“All the other cats also had their rotten teeth removed, sterilisation/castration was performed, ear mites and mycoplasmosis were cured,” they continued.

“All the cats now have good digestion thanks to food for sensitive digestion. Some of the cats were trimmed and all had very long claws that we needed to trim (some cats had to have their claws that grew into the pads removed from the pads). All except the old cat were vaccinated.”

Breeding Munchkin cats is banned in a number of countries and territories due to ethical concerns. The breed is prone to health issues due to a genetic mutation that prevents their bones from growing properly. This is what gives them their short limbs. Some Munchkin kittens die before they are even born because of this genetic mutation.
