Family finances can sometimes cause huge tensions – but one woman has been called a ‘money grabber’ for revealing she’s not going to give her dad any of the profit from his house sale as ‘it’s her money’

A woman has been called a “money grabber” after she said she’s not giving her dad any of the money from his house sale.

Sorting family finances out can be tricky, trying to keep the peace as well as being fair can sometimes cause tension within families – but one woman has been slammed for revealing her dad won’t see any of the money from his house sale as she claimed it’s her inheritance.

The woman explained how the house was left to her in her parent’s will, and after her mum died, she moved her dad into a flat to make his life a little more manageable – but he now wants some of the profit from his house that’s been sold.

She is standing her ground and said it’s her money as it was left to her in the will – and her dad couldn’t afford to live there, so she sold the house. She then took to Mumsnet to ask if she was being unreasonable for not giving her dad a penny of the profit.

“Long story short, my parents signed their house over to me over 10 years ago under the caveat that they could live there until the end of their days. This house is my inheritance, as stated in their will. My mum passed away and my dad can’t afford to stay in the house or manage its upkeep anymore,” she explained, as reported by The Sun.

The post added: “He has a disastrous relationship with money and is basically destitute. I agreed to sell the house and buy a flat for him to live rent-free – all he has to pay is his cost. He now demands money from me as I am making a profit from the sale of the house.”

She then claimed: “I don’t want to give him any, it’s my inheritance!” But other Mumsnet users weren’t impressed, with one person going as far as to call her “disgusting”. “Your dad is destitute and you’re so greedy that you won’t give him any of his own money because you want it all for yourself,” one person wrote.

While another simply wrote: “You’re disgusting, honestly,” and a third slammed her as a “money-grabber”.

A fourth said: “Tax avoidance, avoiding care home fees and elder abuse all in one. It’s not your inheritance – it was their property and they gave it to you. That means you were responsible for its upkeep and you should keep paying for that throughout your dad’s lifetime.

“It’s also not your inheritance but (morally at least) his money. He and your mum paid for that house over years of paying a mortgage. You’ve basically trousered his money and left him high and dry.”
