Everyone loves a birthday cake at a party but it can be less enjoyable if you’re the one tasked with making it. One woman made a six-tier cake for her husband’s family, but the reaction wasn’t what she expected
A woman spent nearly a full day making a six-tier cake for a birthday party but was left floored by the reaction to it. Cake is a must-have at birthday parties, especially if it’s for a child. Blowing the candles out on a cake is an age-old birthday tradition and nowadays, there is a wide variety of cakes in different styles and flavours, including character-themed creations for children.
It’s not uncommon to see cakes with multiple tiers too, especially for special occasions with numerous guests. One woman was set with the huge task of making a six-tier book cake for 14-year-old twins in her husband’s family as they were having a “small birthday celebration.”
She spent 20 hours on it, despite it being the last week of school and having a job as a busy teacher, but her efforts unfortunately weren’t appreciated. She shared what happened on a Reddit forum.
In her post the school teacher said: “We arrived, and the mother said they had to take a twin to a dance tryout, and the rest of us would wait three hours.”
To make matters worse, when the mum and child came back home and cut the cake, the other twin remarked: “Never use American buttercream again, it’s too sweet.”
People on Reddit were quick to share their thoughts on the situation as the post has garnered more than 300 comments.
One user said: “I would have laughed and said ‘No, I’m not sitting here for 3 hours because you made a scheduling mistake.’
“The cake and I would have been long gone. As for the rude kid, ‘What you meant to say was thank you.’
“People really are a******* and they are raising more a*******.” Many people agreed with the post racking up 2,200 upvotes.
Another suggested that the woman should have thrown the cake in the bin after the teenager’s comment. They added: “That’s when you dump it in the trash, maintaining eye contact.
“My mum did this once when I was about that age or younger and a little turd, had a long day and made dinner and we made a comment about it.
“She just got up, took our plates, and dumped it all in the trash, making us feel like garbage.”
A third user humorously chimed in: “Guess that’s the last cake you make for them.”
A fourth shared their shock at what the “busy teacher” had to deal with as they commented: “Bro…20 hours on a cake just to be a placeholder for 3 hours and get roasted by a 14 y/o??
“Nah. Couldn’t be me. You put in mad work, they dropped zero manners.”
Someone else described the “spoiled rotten twin” as “audacious and insulting” and shared that if it was them, they “wouldn’t put myself in the position of doing this monumental favour for that family ever again.”
