A bloke, who posts online as @rooster_8880, left fans in stitches after he took part in the ‘reem’ hair trend, only to be told he looked like an ‘iced gem’ in the comments
A new viral trend is seeing people putting their hair in various styles to make it look ‘reem’ — but one bloke got a very different reaction to his do.
The ‘reem’ trend started after The Only Way Is Essex star Joey Essex joined contestants in the Love Island villa last month. Fans of the 33-year-old dug up a track he released titled after his catchphrase ‘reem’ back in 2011.
The slang word, which means “brilliant, good, cool, fashionable”, has taken social media by storm once again, with people sharing their “reem” new looks. However, a bloke, who posts online under the username @rooster_8880, was harshly compared to a nostalgic after-school snack when he shared his hairstyle online.
In the clip, which has gained more than 490,000 likes, the bloke was seen in his car dancing to a soundbite of the Joey Essex track, with his hair slicked up into a peak with hair gel. “My hair looking reem,” he wrote in the caption.
But TikTok trolls were quick make jokes as they took to the comments comparing his hair to McVities Iced Gems – small, round biscuits topped with a hard, colourful icing swirl, resembling tiny, sweet edible jewels. A user joked: “Omg I miss iced gems.”
Someone else quipped: “This is actually the only acceptable definition of hair looking reem,” as a third added: “‘Iced Gems please mate’.” Meanwhile, a fourth penned: “The toothpaste on my toothbrush.”
Joey Essex was unveiled as the first Bombshell of the new summer series of Love Island during the premiere episode, a first for the long-running reality TV programme. While previous Islanders like Adam Collard and Kady McDermott have returned to the villa for another chance at finding love on national television, Joey is the first well-known celebrity to join the show as a contestant.

More recently, Joey – who was once engaged to fellow TOWIE star Sam Faiers – took on the Australian jungle in the eighth series of “I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! ” Down Under, securing a respectable sixth place. Fast forward to 2023, and he skated his way to becoming the runner-up in the 15th series of Dancing on Ice.”
