A woman was left with no choice other than to threaten her husband with sleeping outside because he refused to take a key out when he knew he’d be staying out late

When you leave your home it’s standard practice to take a key with you, regardless of whether someone else will be in when you’re planning on coming back.

However, one woman’s husband pushed her to the end of her tether by refusing to take a key with him whenever he went out. Instead, he was happy to wake her up in the early hours of the morning.

The stressed-out mum-of-three explained her husband encouraged her to keep the back door unlocked – despite the fact they have kids. “I do not understand why he cannot just take a key with him,” she fumed.

Taking to Mumsnet, she explained her husband regularly goes out for drinks after work. “I do not have a problem with this,” she explained.

However, she continued: “He asks me to leave the back door unlocked, which I do not feel comfortable doing as we have three small children, one of which is a baby. Even if it was just me in the house, I would not want to leave it unlocked.

“The last few times he has come home, he has woken me (and probably the neighbours) up by ringing the doorbell, calling my phone, knocking on the door. This is all after midnight.”

She said her husband had messaged her to let him know he was on the way home, and “to leave the back door unlocked” – despite the fact she’d told him her reservations about doing this.

“I have told him that if he does not have a key, he will need to sleep on the sofa in the outbuilding as I am not leaving the door unlocked, neither am I prepared to be woken up in the middle of the night to let him in,” she fumed.

In the comments, others reassured her that she’d not done anything wrong. One wrote: “He needs to understand that his very late evenings have negative impacts on other people. You are not being unreasonable.”

“Why can he not take a key with him??? Bizarre!,” someone else added, with another saying her husband was a “foolish and selfish idiot”. They wrote: “I would be refusing to leave the door open and refusing to answer it at stupid o clock when he can be a***d to turn up!”

Another echoed their sentiment, penning: “So he’d rather leave his three small children and wife at risk than inconvenience himself by keeping a door key on himself? You are not being unreasonable, he is a dangerous selfish t**t.”
