Black Sheep’s Christmas menu has launched today, Wednesday November 5, and Deputy Social News Editor Ariane managed to try it ahead of time – here are her favourites
UK-based coffee chain Black Sheep has launched its Christmas menu, and I was lucky enough to get a sneak peak at a festive wreath-making event. Black Sheep, which serves 100% speciality-grade Robusta coffee, launched its Christmas menu today, Wednesday November 5, stuffed with bold flavours, indulgent winter warmers – and some cold delights too.
And while I sipped my way through the new launches, which feature some fresh twists to festive favourites, I realised one of them reminded me of a delicious cocktail – and it’ll be one I order again and again. In fact, I’m already dreading it leaving the menu.
My favourite drink of the whole menu is the Mint White Chocolate Chip Matcha, or more specifically, the iced version. According to Black Sheep’s description, this is: “Fresh mint meets creamy white chocolate in this festive twist on a matcha favourite. It’s smooth, sweet, and a little bit cheeky.”
I’m not the biggest matcha fan, but have been known to like when coffee shops make a really sweet version – and this one has to be my favourite yet. It’s sweet, but not sickly sweet, and takes away the bitterness of the matcha, which is what I’m normally not a fan of.
And this reminds me so much of a Grasshopper, which is a delicious mint-flavoured after-dinner cocktail, featuring crème de menthe, white crème de cacao and cream. While you can get this drink hot and cold, despite it being cosy season, I still prefer it to be cold when it comes to matcha.
Next I tried the Gingerbread Latte, which got me into the ultimate Christmas spirit. It just wouldn’t be Christmas without a Gingerbread Latte. The description of the drink, which also comes in an iced version, reads: “Your Christmas classic, perfected. Warming spices and sweet gingerbread syrup stirred into velvety espresso for a nostalgic winter treat.”
Black Sheep is known for their excellent coffee, and you can certainly tell with his drink. The coffee flavour itself is great, the spice and sweetness levels are great – and topped off with some whipped cream this is the ultimate indulgent drink.
You could have this as an iced version, but for me, I like to go for a hot one during winter when it comes to lattes. Lastly on the drinks front we also dried the Fuji Apple, Ginger & Caramel Red Bull Infusion, which was a surprise being launched for bonfire night. The description reads: “Black Sheep Coffee have re-imagined the classic toffee apple in a deliciously drinkable format. Juicy Fuji apple, fiery ginger, and sweet caramel combine with Red Bull for a drink that powers you through Christmas chaos – shopping bags and all.”
And this was a really big surprise. I’m not a Red Bull drinker, but this tasted really good, and reminded me of a toffee apple cider. So, perfect for bonfire night!
In addition to the drinks, we tried the Pigs in Blanket Ciabatta, which is “juicy sausages wrapped in smoky bacon, served in a toasted ciabatta with a rich cranberry glaze”. There was also a Brie & Cranberry Toastie which features “creamy brie, tangy cranberry, and golden toasted sourdough are topped with a cheese bechamel”. Personally, I thought these were pretty standard for coffee chain sandwiches.
While they were tasty, I wouldn’t go out of my way just to eat them. But I will definitely be going back for the drinks!
Sheep Coffee’s Christmas Menu will be available across all UK sites from Wednesday 5th November.
