I’ve been religiously using Lush hair products for about four years now, never really straying from the ones I’ve tried and tested. I know they make my hair look good. My go-to products have been Big shampoo or Swell, and either Veganese or American Cream conditioner. It’s a combo which took me a while to find, but I like it.
However, when I noticed Lush had launched a Snow Fairy shampoo on TikTok, I was intrigued. I wanted to know whether it smelled like the sprays, whether it was glittery, and what sort of thing it would do to my hair. Would it dye it pink!?
Snow Fairy is one of my favourite scents from Lush, so when it comes around each year, best believe I’m one of the first through the door to get my hands on some new products.
Recently, they even launched the Super Fairy collection, which is the perfect blend of Super Milk and Snow Fairy, which I am utterly obsessed with.
I can confirm the shampoo does indeed smell very similar to the spray, if a little less sweet, but I suppose that’s to be expected.
What did shock me, however, was how pigmented the product is! It genuinely looks like hair dye!
On the bottle, it warns you shouldn’t leave it on dry hair for too long because it may actually dye it… and as a hair dye virgin, I can’t lie, this did excite me slightly.
In fact, Aimee, who posts on TikTok as @love_lushie, shared the Snow Fairy shampoo made her bleached money pieces at the front of her hairdo pink. Of course, she noted “results will vary” from person to person, and she actually “left it on for an hour” rather than just using it as a shampoo. So, do with that information what you will.
The website also warns: “This product is deliberately pigmented, so watch where you whip it,” which meant I had to give the shower a big rinse afterwards. But, I can’t complain when it’s all just good fun.
When I put it on my hand, I gasped. The glittery, bright pink shampoo seemed to instantly dye my hand, let alone my hair! I was convinced it would be leaving something behind in its wake.
Nervously, I glanced at my trusty ‘Big’ shampoo in all its salty glory, wondering whether it was too late to change my mind and opt for that instead. I decided to brave it and lathered it up in my hands, adding a bit of water to my hair so I could wash it thoroughly. Much like big, it seems to be a one wash and done shampoo, which I much prefer.
I was massaging the product in my hair, secretly hoping for a bit of colour payoff, but also deep down knowing it was unlikely because my hair isn’t bleached.
I rinsed it all out and it left my shower smelling amazing, and it also left my hair feeling extremely clean. After using a salt shampoo for so long, it was the weirdest feeling to use a product that’s a little more ‘traditional’.
I conditioned my ends as usual with Veganese, did all the rest of the shower bits and bobs, and then got out, wrapping my locks in a towel. I then quickly peeked at the ends of my hair to see whether they were miraculously dyed pink.
Unsurprisingly, this wasn’t the case, and weirdly, I was left feeling a little disappointed. However, I was impressed with how clean my hair felt, and of course, the amazing smells that were coming from my tresses.
I left it in the towel for a bit, scrunched some of my usual products into it, and later on, gave it a quick blast with the hair dryer after using some Snow Fairy hair primer on it, which is new for this year (like Super Milk hair primer, but smells even nicer in my opinion).
What I will say about this shampoo is that it seems to have brightened up my hair. As previously mentioned, I haven’t ever dyed my hair (unless you count a temporary dip dye job when I was 15), so I obviously didn’t seriously expect the product to have an effect on my darker blonde hair, but it does seem to have made my hair look more blonde.
I was sitting in bed looking at it thinking ‘it definitely looks lighter than it would normally’. I suppose the real test of whether I’ll be popping this into my usual roster is how long it takes for my hair to get greasy before I wash it. With Big, I can honestly go almost two weeks without needing to wash my hair.
However, other products I’ve used in the past have made my hair look greasy immediately after washing it, so I guess it just depends on the things that work for you.
I can safely say that so far, I’m impressed with this Snow Fairy shampoo. It hasn’t made my hair look greasy, it’s looks fresh and clean, and it smells so good too.
Plus, if you want to give it a whirl with a 100ml bottle, it’ll set you back just £9. So, what are you waiting for? And, if you manage to dye your hair pink with it, please let me know!
