London’s bakery scene has something for everyone, and there is always another unique place to try. Don’t Tell Dad, started by siblings Lesley and Daniel, is the perfect new addition.
Open since January, this bakery and restaurant has brought the residents of Queen’s Park the neighbourhood spot of their dreams. And I am happy to confirm that it is as dreamy as they had hoped.
It is located on Lonsdale Road, a quaint little alley lined with shops and restaurants, perfect for picking up one of their delightful pastries and having a stroll.
The restaurant – curated and designed to be welcoming, comfortable, and homey – hits all the marks. They offer indoor and outdoor seating and a view behind the counter where you can watch them prep and see how the kitchen operates.
Serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner with rotating seasonal menus, Don’t Tell Dad has plenty of fresh ideas and tasty dishes to offer. But where I think they really shine is their bakery menu.
With a selection of around 15 different pastries and breads, they have designed a perfect menu and provide both traditional and unique baked goods. Described as “classics with a twist,” Don’t Tell Dad has found the secret to good quality breakfast. From a plain croissant to a fig and tres leches Danish, each item is chosen and made with care and consideration.
I chose the brown butter and hazelnut croissant and was pleasantly surprised by the flavours and the consistency. With a glazed, crusty exterior and a soft, buttery interior, they perfected the layered texture that makes traditional croissants so popular.
The brown butter and hazelnut added depth of flavour and blended to deliver just the right amount of sweetness. The chopped hazelnuts decorating the top added a nice crunch and brought out the nutty flavour once more.
I would definitely be interested in trying their other pastries and menus, but no matter what you get, Don’t Tell Dad is worth checking out. They can get quite busy on the weekends and will sell out of their most popular items.
For the best chance at trying the pastries everyone is raving about, make sure to head there early and enjoy!
