Finding hidden food spots in London isn’t easy, but I stumbled across one tucked away in Old Spitalfields Market. The market has plenty of viral food stalls, but most cost over £10 – not exactly budget-friendly.
That’s why I headed straight for Sud Italia, a pizza van with a solid social media presence and a website that makes it easy to know what you’re ordering before you even arrive.
The first thing that caught my eye on the menu wasn’t one of their big pizzas, but the small £5 option tucked away in the corner. I had to try it.
It turned out to be a folded Neapolitan-style pizza – known as a ‘pizza wallet’ or pizza a portafoglio – filled with rich tomato sauce and gooey fior di latte mozzarella.
The dough was soft with a slight chew, perfectly cooked in their wood-fired oven, and the smell alone had me hooked.
Around the van, the staff were constantly moving, prepping dough, pulling pizzas from the oven, and chatting with customers. They were friendly and clearly knew their stuff.
The rest of the menu ranges from £9 to £14, which is still good value for central London, especially with the quality you get here. But if you just want something quick, tasty, and cheap, that £5 pizza wallet hits the spot.
So, next time you’re in Spitalfields Market and want proper pizza without blowing your budget, Sud Italia is the place to go.
Sud Italia can be found at Old Spitalfields Market, 16 Horner Square, London E1 6EW.
