Victoria Beckham is known for her flawless, glowing skin. One of the products she swears by is an LED light therapy mask, so I put it to the test and it slashed ten years off my looks.
I’m deeply insecure. It’s a tough pill to swallow, but regardless of how ‘youthful’ I may appear, I always feel like I fall short of ‘natural beauty.’ Despite enduring three heatwaves this summer, I was perpetually outdoors in makeup; as daft as it sounds, I’d rather have it all melt off under the sun than not wear it at all.
My insecurity even extends to never nipping to the local shops without a full face on. My skin is somewhat lacklustre and uneven, prone to acne flare-ups. I’ve dabbled with everything from collagen masks to vitamin C serums and moisturising creams; each product pledged results, but none delivered anything sustainable.
I was on the brink of giving up until I stumbled upon the latest craze: LED light therapy masks, which are a hit amongst celebrities such as Victoria Beckham, Olivia Attwood, and Kim Kardashian.
Victoria Beckham, in particular, is renowned for her flawless, naturally radiant skin and has launched her own skincare line. In a video titled ‘Self-care Sunday,’ the beauty icon detailed her beauty regimen, which includes using an LED light therapy mask.
On Instagram, she shared: “On a Sunday morning, I try and find time for a pamper session – I apply a face mask. I leave this on for as long as I can, then remove with my @VictoriaBeckhamBeauty Daily Cleansing Protocol followed by a session under my LED mask and then @VictoriaBeckhamBeauty x @AugustinusBader Power Serum + Priming Moisturiser and ready to go for the day!.”
Beauty magazine Grazia UK reports that Victoria Beckham opts for the Celluma PRO mask, which carries an eye-watering £2,095 price tag. She’s also been seen using the Opera LED mask, which sets you back more than £1,400, The Sun revealed.
Fortunately, I had the chance to trial Ulike’s LED light therapy mask costing £349, though it’s currently available for £299.
How Ulike’s LED mask operates
The Ulike ReGlow Mask employs multi-wavelength LED light therapy to tackle particular skin issues, including firmness, spots, inflammation, and lacklustre complexion. Different coloured lights penetrate the skin at varying depths to encourage cellular function, enhance collagen creation, and boost overall skin feel and glow with regular application.
Nevertheless, this device shouldn’t be used every day. A Ulike spokesperson recommended: “It is recommended to use the device three times a week.
“You can choose the mode based on your skin condition. Glow and Clear modes last five minutes each, and Firm and Rejuvenate modes last eight minutes each. For best results, use one to two modes per session, not exceeding 20 minutes in total.
“It is not recommended to use our device during menstruation, pregnancy, or breastfeeding. Hormonal fluctuations during these periods may increase skin sensitivity, potentially leading to discomfort or adverse reactions.”
The following groups should avoid using the device:
- Those with heart diseases, heart dysfunction, or prone to dysfunction
- People who are intoxicated or unconscious
- People who cannot sense temperature or stimuli
- Individuals with autoimmune diseases
- Don’t use for two weeks after surgery
The results
Most products work if you actually use them properly. I’m only human (an impatient one at that), so I can occasionally make the odd blunder that makes me question how well a product works. I used the LED face mask on all the settings in one session, which you absolutely shouldn’t do.
As mentioned above, you should use two settings per session for maximum effectiveness, but I didn’t realise this until it was too late (always read the instructions!). This caused me to break out a little bit, but my skin is very sensitive, so I should have eased my way through the process.
I also used this machine during my menstrual cycle, which also caused my hormonal acne to become worse. However, once I mastered the machine (after actually reading the instructions), my skin began to even out. I concentrated on the clear and glow settings, and after a fortnight, I certainly noticed a change. I woke up to more hydrated skin that looked refreshed rather than lacklustre.
After two months, my skin appeared rejuvenated, and I felt confident enough to venture into the big city without makeup, without attracting any strange looks or judgment; in fact, I was often asked for ID when buying paracetamol at the supermarket!
Despite being in my mid-20s, people thought I was in my early teens, effectively shaving a good 10 years off my age—a compliment I seldom receive. Fast-forward to month five, and I must confess, I started slacking after my experiment. If I’m brutally honest, I am quite a lazy person who lacks consistency when it comes to beauty routines.
But I feel as though my skin has regressed slightly. From what felt like a refreshed, glowing version of myself, I reverted to looking dull and lifeless. Persistence and consistency are definitely key with this face mask. It’s easy to use and the large eye holes make it convenient to wear while doing chores around the house or simply watching telly.
My only gripe is that I have a lot of hair, and it can be a bit tight around my head, but this can be adjusted with the straps. Overall, I genuinely rate this mask, and as someone who’s tested every beauty trend going, I’m convinced it’s worth every penny for anyone wanting rapid results to enhance their complexion.
Ulike’s mask is adaptable, suitable for every skin type, and delivers lasting benefits when used regularly. Despite the cost, you’ll no longer need to keep splashing out on pricey anti-ageing or moisturising products, which ultimately cost the same amount over time.
Reviews elsewhere
The mask currently enjoys 4.96 stars on its official website. One thoroughly pleased customer wrote: “It’s amazing. I love it. I bought it to address hyperpigmentation, prevent breakouts and increase collagen. I hope they sell those face masks too because those are also bomb. So hydrating and it provides great face coverage.
“I have full lips, and the mouth hole is big enough. For the past three days, I’ve used both products as my self-care treat after work. The only thing I dislike is that the light mask can be uncomfortable on the bridge of my nose. My husband experienced the same thing. So far, I have found that if I push on the chin of the mask, it relieves some of the pressure. It’s not awful by any means, it’s just that annoying pain.”
Another customer who awarded the mask four stars noted: “This feels soothing and fits well. It’s easy to use and has pretty good battery life. It’s comfortable enough to wear for the amount of time required.”
