A woman has been slammed for ‘cutting her nose off to spite her face’ after she refused to give out her date of birth to a delivery driver because she was worried he’d commit ‘fraud’ with it
Getting your weekly food shop delivered straight to your door is so easy, and it saves faffing around in the store and buying unnecessary things.
When you buy booze as part of your grocery shopping, you’ll need to give your date of birth to prove that you’re old enough to have the alcohol. This is so the delivery driver has something to type into their system to validate that the person they’ve delivered to is of age.
However, one woman “refused” to give her delivery driver her date of birth, because she was worried about “fraud” that may happen as a result – and she’s been labelled as “paranoid”.
Taking to Mumsnet, the woman wrote: “Am I being unreasonable to refuse to give my full date of birth to a delivery driver for my online food shop?”
She explained: “I just placed an order for some groceries and provided photo ID on delivery – Oyster 60 plus photo card. The delivery driver refused to leave the shopping, there was one bottle of wine, as I refused to give my full date of birth. No wonder we have so much fraud!”
In the comments, people were confused as to why the woman was being awkward about it, as there’s not much that can be done with just a date of birth.
One wrote: “It’s just ID for the alcohol, I really don’t see the issue. They ask me every time and I just tell them.” Someone else said: “The poor guy was doing his job, asking a question he had to ask. Honestly, what’s the big deal in giving it. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face.” Another asked: “What fraud is someone going to commit with your date of birth?”
Some comments asked if the woman was always “so paranoid”. Another calmly explained: “The policy will be a policy based on any restricted products…it is a blanket policy so drivers don’t need to make a judgement but you make his day a little bit harder for no reason at all”.
