People are divided over whether or not dogs should be allowed in restaurants, and someone who definitely thinks they shouldn’t has taken to Reddit after getting into a confrontation about the issue

Opinion as to whether dogs should be allowed in certain public places is certainly mixed.

Someone who isn’t keen on pooches in indoor places recently took to Reddit to explain what happened when they were in a restaurant and saw a couple letting their dog walk on the “furniture”.

They wrote on the ‘Am I The A**hole’ subreddit: “It just wasn’t with them, it was on the furniture. This s**t annoys me, it’s indoors at a restaurant which isn’t allowed. While I’m not allergic, my mum and brother have severe pet allergies.

“So, I took a picture. I didn’t say anything to them, I just took the picture. I wanted to submit a health code violation to my county and use the picture as proof. I wasn’t going to use it for any other purpose than to submit and document a violation.”

However, things became awkward when the owner clocked a photo had been taken. They continued: “They noticed me and asked why I was taking their picture. I told them. They said they didn’t want their picture used for that.

“I told them they should have thought about that before. They asked me to delete the picture. I refused. They called me an a**hole. I go to leave and one of them follows me out and says I violated their privacy. I told them I didn’t care, I got in my truck and left. Am I the a**hole?”

In the comments, someone asked: “Why was your first reaction to report the entire restaurant rather than talking to management about the dog? If the manager still allowed the dog inside the restaurant (and it wasn’t a service dog) then yeah go ahead and report them. But at least make sure they’re aware of the situation.”

Another added: “From the original poster’s post there is no way to tell how long the dog was inside. It could have just as well been that they seated themselves and that no employee had gotten to them yet or even seen them. You gotta give people a chance instead of immediately assuming the worst. That’s why it’s important to involve employees first.”

Someone else suggested employees in restaurants “don’t make enough to confront a dog owner like that”, but another said: “They have to step up and enforce health codes.

“I’m a dog lover. Hard stop. But I cannot stand it when dog owners take advantage of weak managers and subject diners to their yapping, crapping, fur babies.”

What would you do in this situation? Let us know in the comments.
