Cheap and cheerful hotels are hard to come by, especially in central Manchester, but one man wanted to see whether the ‘worst-rated’ hotel in the city was as bad as it sounded
Finding a good hotel deal can be seriously tough, especially in a big city centre.
That’s why, despite some negative reviews, punters still flock to Sachas Hotel in central Manchester – because it’s a serious steal. Rated two out of five on TripAdvisor, the hotel left one person claiming they wouldn’t stay again even if it “was £1 a night”.
TikToker @zacjonesliverpool, who regularly reviews hotels, went to check out whether the hotel really is as bad as some say, or whether it’s worth the lack of luxury for a seriously cheap weekend break.
In his video captioned “staying in Manchester’s WORST reviewed hotel”, Zac said every review he’d seen had told people to “avoid it [the hotel] at all costs”. When he walked in he said it was “nice in here”, commenting on the chandelier in the entrance hall. The woman at the front desk asked him if he would like to “upgrade” to a room with a window, and although he said no he was upgraded anyway.
When he got in the room, Zac described it as “a bit dark” but said there wasn’t “much to complain about” on first impressions. He said the reviews were not “a fair representation of the hotel”, saying the room looked “good” and “far from terrible”. He did say the carpet was “a bit manky” but commented that the bed looked “clean at first glance”.
In a separate clip, he looked at the bathroom and said there wasn’t “much to complain about, or rave about”. He added that it was “very basic”, with “ugly floors, but they get the job done”, describing them as “for convenience rather than for style”.
In another video he went around the corridors of the hotel saying it looked like “every Britannia hotel ever made” and seemed “quite clean”. Zac did say some things he found looked “eerie”, but he went past a barrier he wasn’t supposed to in order to get a feel for the place.
However, when he got the UV light out on the bedding, he said the pillowcases were “horrible” and “not very nice” as there were marks on them. When he assessed the mattress, he said it looked “cheap”, but there was “nothing standing out” in terms of stains. He also said: “Towels look fine.” At the end of his final video about Sachas he said: “Final words about this place – over-hated.”
In the comments, one person wrote: “Had the pleasure of staying…reminds me of the hotel out of The Shining. In fact I would have preferred to stay there.” Someone else disagreed, however, penning: “Best hotel ever”.
