A woman was left gobsmacked after staff at the holiday resort she was at made a wild assumption about her and her dad when she was just trying to make the most of happy hour

Hanging out with your older family members is a lot of fun, and it’s essential to make the most of the time you spend with them. However, one woman was left floored when she was on holiday with her dad, and the staff made the most bizarre assumption – and it seemed as though it wasn’t the first time it had happened.

Millie McLay, who posts travel content on her TikTok channel, filmed herself lying down on a sunbed to explain what had just happened with the staff on the cruise she was on, and she was left floored by the interaction.

In the caption, she wrote: “Should I be offended? What is going on?” explaining in the video what had been said.

Millie said: “Guys, what is going on? So I’m on holiday with my dad, I’m on a cruise, and I come down to the sunbeds for the happy hour to get a little cheeky drink before dinner, and the staff say, ‘Oh, where’s your husband?’

“And I’m like ‘Oh, I don’t have one, I’m gay’. I didn’t say that, I was just like ‘I don’t have one’, and they’re like ‘Oh no, is he coming down? Where’s your husband, where’s your husband?’

“I was thinking, like, I actually don’t have one. So I was like ‘Oh, no, I don’t have one, I don’t have one’.

“And they were not getting the hint. He then says, ‘Oh, you know, um, who you were with yesterday’, which was my dad…who is literally in his 60s. Like, how embarrassing”.

Millie then joked she was going to have to start wearing a badge that stated the man she was on holiday with was her dad, rather than her husband.

She did laugh about it at the end, but people making assumptions like this can be exhausting.

In the comments, one woman who regularly experiences the same thing wrote: “I feel you – happens to me all the time. Have a great relationship with my dad, and everyone always assumes we are a couple when we are together”.

Millie replied, saying that she was “so sorry” that had happened to her. The woman replied: “I make a point of dropping it in the convo now to avoid embarrassment!”

Meanwhile, one man wrote: “You think that’s bad? My wife and I are the same age (32), and people think she’s my daughter.”

Lots of other women said that the same thing happened to them and their dads when they were on holiday together.

Someone shared: “My friend is 27, and her grandpa was in his 70s, and people were asking if she was his wife,” followed by a skull emoji as she was mortified.
