Shopping for groceries is a necessary chore, but sometimes means having to interact with other customers and this isn’t always a pleasant experience, as highlighted by one shopper
A customer was taken back by a fellow patron’s demand while queuing up to pay for their groceries. Regular food shopping is a must and there are several supermarkets and local shops you can get your groceries from.
Some people prefer to do their shopping online whereas others like to do this task in-store as they enjoy browsing the different aisles and physically seeing what products are on offer, including any new items that might not be available online. Both methods of shopping have their pros and cons but one downside to buying groceries in-store is having to wait in line to pay for your goods.
Most customers wait for their turn patiently, whether they’re paying at a till or using a self-service checkout machine.
However, one person came across an ‘entitled’ woman while waiting to pay for their shopping.
Posting on Reddit, they shared: “In line at the store today, an entitled woman behind me actually tried to cut in front, saying: I only have a few items. You can wait – I am in a hurry.
“I told her no, and she huffed loudly the entire time.” The user added that once the cashier had taken the payment for their shopping, the woman “demanded” that they cancel the transaction “so she could go first.”
The Reddit user continued: “Even the cashier laughed. She stormed off muttering that we were disrespectful. No, lady – that’s not how lines work.”
More than 200 comments have been left on the post and one person shared a similar experience they had: “I was about done unloading my cart at our Aldi and the woman behind me kept eyeing my cartful of groceries and glancing down to her four or five items.
“She remarked, ‘if you were a nice person, you’d let me go ahead of you.’ I didn’t even look at her and said ‘I’m not a nice person’ and then smiled and greeted the cashier with a smile.
“They did their best to hide their smirk.” Another user responded: “I had exactly the same situation just yesterday!
“A cashier in a hardware store was ringing my items (not f****** ton even, maybe 8-10 altogether) when that lady literally tried to push me away, because she had only one thing and she was in a hurry. The cashier actually told her off quite firmly.”
Someone with experience of working in a shop chimed in: “I had a customer that would regularly come in and cut claiming he was going to miss a flight.
“After a handful of times my manager confronted him by saying “wow you’re sure are late to a lot of flights. Maybe don’t come when you need to be at the airport” he stopped after that.”
A different shop employee revealed: “My boss had to call the police the other day because 2 guys got into a fight over 1 of them cutting in line. 2 grown a** men fighting over cutting in line.”
