A woman has been urged to speak to a professional for help after admitting she wore a wedding dress to her sister’s funeral after grieving her loss alone for weeks

A grieving woman has sparked concern after revealing she wore a wedding dress to her sister’s funeral. She explained how her 32-year-old sister died unexpectedly – leaving her in an emotional ‘mess’ and turning her world upside down.

Speaking on Reddit, she said: “My sister and I were very close. When she died, I was inconsolable. I cried until my throat hurt so bad I could hardly speak. I couldn’t think about anything except how much I missed her.”

While grieving her loss, the woman says she couldn’t find the energy to maintain her personal hygiene or keep up with her housework. She added: “My house was in complete disarray but I couldn’t find the will to do anything about it.

“By the day of the funeral, I had been like that for months. The only clean clothing item in my closet was my wedding dress. I didn’t want my family to worry about me so I wore my clean dress, did my makeup, put on a brave face, and headed for the funeral.

“The ceremony was incredible and touching, there was a massive outpouring of love and loss and it really felt like she was smiling down on us from heaven.” But after the funeral, her family started blowing up her phone with messages condemning her for “trying to upstage her sister on her special day”.

Wanting to know whether she was in the wrong, she added: “I honestly think it’s what she would have wanted though.” While most users agreed her family’s reaction was ‘over the top’, others urged her to speak to a professional about her loss.

One user said: “Yeah, wearing a wedding dress to a funeral is definitely a red flag for someone’s mental state. They either don’t ‘get’ what is actually happening or think it’s appropriate attire. Either way, they are not coping well.” Another user added: “Why isn’t the family concerned because you are clearly not coping with your sister’s death when you turn up to her funeral in a wedding dress like a crazy woman.”
