A woman who finds bras uncomfortable wants to remove the stigma around the subject, has shown how you can still wear professional and classy work attire, and not wear one
A bra can be great for providing the breasts with support, but one woman has claimed she hates wearing them so much she would rather “mow the lawn with her teeth”.
While many women like wearing bras, as they can provide support and elevate the breasts, others prefer going without. Whether to wear one or not is a completely personal choice – although it can, for some bizarre reason, still provoke a reaction.
Fashion influencer Shareefa Gyami doesn’t like wearing bras so she no longer wears them – even if she’s going to work. Shareefa, who describes herself as an “optimist, a home-body yet an adventurer” and “a risk taker yet an avid planner” says her outfits are always “classy” – and that doesn’t change because she’s not wearing a bra.
In a video uploaded to TikTok, Shareefa wrote: “Boobs belong in the workforce.” She appeared in a gorgeous cream-coloured short-sleeve top, with smart-looking high-waisted trousers in a similar colour.
Shareefa posed confidently in the video while telling people it was okay not to wear a bra. She added in the caption: “Literally argue with your mum if you disagree, I don’t have time.”
The video has been seen by more than 756k people, with many seemingly agreeing with Shareefa. One person wrote: “100% agree. I am not being uncomfortable for anyone.” Another wrote: “I literally don’t understand why people get up in arms about the female anatomy. You look stylish.” A third commented: “I’ve been doing this for ages and no one has said anything but I will die on this hill.”
She later uploaded two follow-up videos showing you can still wear ‘professional’ outfits to work while not wearing a bra. In one, Shareefa is wearing a tight-filling long-sleeve black top with faux leather trousers. She wrote: “Professional outfits ft my body the way it was made.”
In the final video on the topic, she wore a beautiful brown jumpsuit, with a low neckline. She wrote: “Braless professional attire is the new black,” and added: “I’d rather mow the lawn with my teeth than wear a bra.”
In the clip, a sound can be heard, with a woman saying: “I felt like I always knew I was a baddie because, you know, my mum’s a baddie. She always gets what she wants so I’m a baddie too, I get what I want.”
While most people applauded Shareefa for her clothing choices, it proved to be too controversial for some. One person wrote: “Not appropriate for work,” while another added: “Depending where u work [sic].”
Some people noted that the issue around whether or not to wear a bra originated from misogyny, and while most people agreed it should be down to comfort, others said it depends on what type of job you had.
