I’m a beauty writer and these Amazon Prime Day deals are worth spying on

Amazon Prime Day is nearly upon us, offering beauty fans the chance to stock up on their go-to skincare and makeup products, and discover new favourites through a selection of price cuts, lightning deals and discounts. Running from July 16-17, the two-day event will see the prices cut on dozens of products, not just across beauty, but categories like tech, fashion and home, too.

Last year, I spent around 15 hours exclusively scouring the beauty department for the best deals, from TikTok-viral mascaras to budget straighteners that ‘rival ghd’. As this year’s event approaches, I’ve taken a look at the top deals from 2023 which I think are worth keeping an eye on.

While it’s not guaranteed that what was reduced last year will be reduced this year, if they take your fancy, you can add them to your shopping basket so you’ll be notified of any price changes between now and Prime Day.

As well as checking last year’s Prime Day prices against their current price, I’ve used a number of price history checkers, like CamelCamelCamel and Bobalob, where you can find the lowest price they’ve been over the course of the last 12 months to check you’re getting the best deal. It’s also worth checking sites like Trolley.co.uk, which compares the present prices of products at multiple retailers, so you know you’re getting the best deal.

Here’s what we’ll be looking out for this Amazon Prime Day 2024:

Maybelline’s TikTok viral Mascara

In the realm of viral makeup sensations, few products have captured the hearts and peepers of thousands of beauty buffs quite like Maybelline’s Lash Sensational Sky High Mascara. The budget mascara has amassed more than 42,000 reviews from shoppers (double last year) and remains to be one of Amazon’s best-selling products in the cosmetics category.

With its innovative formula and unique brush design, Maybelline’s Sky High mascara promises to deliver ‘full volume and a limitless length look’, which is unique in itself as mascara’s tend to offer one or the other, proving that the lash game has been forever changed by the American beauty brand.

Usually £12.99, is was reduced significantly for Amazon Prime Day 2023, coming in at £7.99 on Amazon and at Boots .At the moment, it’s £8.45 on Amazon, but it did fall to £5.99 back in December. That said, Amazon is currently the cheapest place to buy it.

Molly-Mae Hague’s favourite Elemis cleanser

Last year, Love Island star Molly-Mae revealed that she ‘swears by’ the Elemis Pro-Collagen Rose Cleansing Balm. The luxury cleanser would usually set you back £49 at LookFantastic, however was reduced to just £30.99 in Amazon’s Prime Day sale.

The popular product is formulated with English rose oleo extract to gently cleanse your skin, removing stubborn makeup, excess sebum and daily pollutants while soothing your skin – think of it as a facial in a pot, dreamy right? It can be used at the end of the day to remove both eye and face makeup – or as a nourishing face mask once a week.

Molly Mae said: “This product is absolutely incredible to remove my makeup. Just take two fingernails of the product and I just massage it into my skin. I used to use makeup wipes but so many people told me, ‘you don’t not realise just how bad that is for your skin’, but once I started using this I’ve never gone back to using wipes.”

With 12 days to go until this Prime Day, the cleanser sits at £39 on Amazon and £44.10 at Boots, so certainly feels like one to watch.

‘Better-than-ghd’ straighteners

Brands like Dyson, ghd and Cloud Nine have often paved the way in the hair tools industry – but a budget pair of straighteners from Amazon are reportedly giving them all a run for their money. This pair of Remington straighteners are a frequent bestseller, and were under £25 last Amazon Prime Day.

Usually £79.99, the Remington straighteners were reduced to just £24.99, and now sit at £28.97. But according to CamelCamelCamel, they’ve been as low as £17.99 on Amazon over the Black Friday period. Nonetheless, under £30 is still great for such a high-performing pair of straighteners. I tried them out for myself and actually preferred them to my ghds.

In fact, I tested out five pairs of hair straighteners from some of the most well-known brands in the business, including Cloud Nine, GHD, Dyson, Glamoriser and Remington, and the latter still came out on top.

The Advanced Ceramic coated plates are infused with Moroccan argan oil and vitamin E, while the floating plates make them spongy and allow for even pressure on the hair. According to Amazon, they’ve sold more than 10,000 pairs in the last month, racking up some 28,000 reviews.

Michelle Keegan’s favourite moisturiser

The Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré is loved by huge name celebrities and their makeup artists from Kim Kardashian to Michelle Keegan, reportedly selling one tube every 13 seconds.Costing £20 for 75ml, it was down to £15 last Amazon Prime Day, but is actually cheaper right now, coming in at £14.03, saving shoppers 30 per cent off.

Hailed as the ‘anti-ageing wonder cream’ by a host of makeup artists, the multi-tasking product is rich in essential fatty acids and vitamins, which are ideal for creating smooth, supple and wrinkle-free skin.

The cheapest it’s been in the last 12 months is £13.35, and you can bet we’ll be stocking up for the summer months. You can read our full review of the cream here.

Cult Korean snail serum

Another popular product last Prime Day was the COSRX’s Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence. It contains the ingredient more commonly known as snail slime, which reportedly offers incredible skincare benefits.

The Mucin Power Essence promises to repair and rejuvenate dry skin thanks to its inclusion of hydration hero hyaluronic acid, reviving your complexion’s glow and moisture. It’s also formulated with glycolic acid that helps to prevent breakouts.

Last year, it was slashed to £11.90, and is currently £12.73, remaining full price at £24.99 at Boots. Would you try it? Now’s the best time seeing as it’s almost half price – try it here on Amazon.

Hailey Bieber’s moisturiser which leaves skin ‘glowing’

Weleda’s Skin Food is known for curing dry cracked or rough skin, with the skincare hero being loved by Hailey Bieber, Victoria Beckham, Rosie Huntington-Whitely and Priyanka Chopra.

Usually £14.95, it’s another that’s cheaper ahead of Prime Day in 2024 than it was during last year’s event. At the time of writing, it’s down to £8.30, 90p cheaper than it was in 2023. The nourishing balm-lotion is incredibly soothing, and instantly hydrates parched patches like your elbows and knees with ease. It’s also the ultimate multitasker too, and can be used as a moisturiser, primer, face mask and cuticle cream.

Hailey Bieber often shares her skincare hacks with her 10.9 million TikTok followers, and one video in particular shows the star using the celeb-loved Weleda Skin Food as the final step to her ‘radiant’ makeup prep.

In the video which has over 11 million views, Hailey says: “I like to get a richer, heavier cream and just put that in some spots where I feel like I get more dry, and where I want a little more sheen and highlight under the makeup.”

You can pick up the celeb-approved Weleda Skin Food here for just £8.30 now.

Dyson Airwrap alternative for £32

Although we’re big fans of the Dyson Airwrap, and it’s many people’s go-to tool for bouncy locks, the hefty £479.99 price tag is enough to put any beauty fan off – no matter how good it may be.

If you’re on a slightly tighter budget, but still want to achieve the same professional looking blow dry from home, we’ve spotted this budget-friendly Dyson alernative which shoppers say ‘is just as good,’ but for a fraction of the price.

The Revlon One-Step Volumiser, which thousands of shoppers ‘swear by’ for a speedy hair-do, is on sale right now for just £31.95, up slightly from last year’s £29.99, but still significantly cheaper than its £62.99 RRP.

With a 4.5 star rating based on more than 36,000 reviews, it’s not hard to see why the hair tool is so popular amongst beauty fans, with one shopper saying: “Don’t know how I’m so late to the party with this product but it has surpassed my expectations and is now my go-to ahead of my Dyson. I bought the short hair version which is a perfect size for my short bob and it has cut drying time in half. Love it!”

However, based on the reviews it seems better-suited to those with longer locks, with one three-star review reading: “I have a chin length bob but if your hair is any shorter I wouldn’t get this tool. The styler is nearly impossible to clear of hair & fluff that gets stuff in the bristles. One with a detachable brush would be better.” You can buy the Revlon One-Step Volumiser here whilst it’s on sale at Amazon here.

TikTok’s viral Rosemary Mint Scalp & Hair Strengthening Oil

If your tresses could do with a little TLC then you may want to find out everything there is to know about the best selling Mielle Rosemary Mint Hair Growth Oil that’s been slashed to £7.93 on Amazon, only a few pence more than last year’s price of £7.84.

The rosemary mint oil has grown in popularity in the past year racking up over 200 million views on TikTok after influencer Alix Earle raved about its hair growth properties which appealed to those with all hair types.

One happy Amazon customer said: “The first product in my life that actually has visual signs of working in around the 3-4th use. This is magic. I’m not paid or a fake review, I swear to God it is a miracle worker.”

Another user wrote: “This stuff is a miracle worker.” While a third was slightly less impressed, adding: “i only used a few drops on my scalp left it overnight but it made my hair greasy.”

Elsewhere, it’s likely that other retailers will hold sales and events in conjunction with Amazon Prime Day. Last year, the likes of Boots and LookFantastic also went big on deals over the two days.
