The hack, which has proved very popular on TikTok, is not just a social media trend – it actually works to clear your showerhead of limescale with minimal effort.

With social media now such a huge part of our lives, platforms like TikTok are a great place to hunt for new cleaning tips and tricks – and there is certainly no shortage of them.

But sometimes, with so many different videos out there, it can be difficult to know which hacks actually work and which ones have simply gone viral for the wrong reasons.

Thankfully, one cleaning expert has tried and tested some of the most popular TikTok cleaning hacks at the moment – including one very effective way to clean your shower – and can confirm that they do in fact work.

As there’s often so much discussion around popular social media hacks that can do more harm than good, Nick Ross from Home Spritz put the shower-cleaning trick to the test, which uses a very common kitchen ingredient and minimal effort.

Vinegar can be a useful tool for cleaning showerheads, because its acidic properties help dissolve mineral deposits and grime buildup.

TikTokker @madamesweat suggests avoiding bleach and using water and vinegar instead. The TikTok video has more than 2.6 million views and many other users followed the trend.

And it’s very simple to do as well. Nick said: “Simply fill a plastic bag with white vinegar and soak the showerhead for a few hours, or overnight if the build-up is tougher.

“Once soaked, rinse the showerhead thoroughly and scrub any stubborn areas with an old toothbrush.”

Although this is an effective cleaning trick, Nick issued a word of warning that it should be carried out with caution on certain showers. He said: “Remember that this approach should be used only for stainless steel showerheads. Ones with delicate finishes like brass should not be soaked for more than 30 minutes.”

Another popular trick that’s been doing the rounds on TikTok is using a hairdryer to remove sticker residue from mirrors and glass, as heat can help to loosen the adhesive so it peels off easier.

TikToker @missenplace_au has gained more than 145,000 views in a video showing this easy, yet very effective hack.

“I often give jars a new lease of life, so I tried removing a label from one I was about to clean. I was really impressed by how well a hairdryer loosened the adhesive,” explained Nick.

“Apply heat for about 30 seconds, then gently lift a corner of the sticker with your fingernail or a thin, flat tool and the sticker will come right off.”
