Want to look like Julia Roberts at the races in Pretty Woman? This could just be the perfect dress for you

Fashion lovers have been swooning over an ‘absolutely gorgeous’ dress from Marks and Spencer’s new spring collection, and say it ‘looks more expensive’ than its under-£50 price tag. And what’s more is that it nods to an iconic movie, making it the perfect choice if you’re heading to the races this summer.

The Polka Dot V-Neck Maxi Wrap Dress from the M&S Collection is one of the latest styles to launch at the high-street retailer, with shoppers hailing it as ‘flattering’ and great for holidays. The chocolate-coloured dress comes in at £49.50, and is one of the brand’s top bestsellers on their website, Birmingham Live reports.

M&S stylists say it can be worn for ‘any occasion’ with a flattering V-neckline and ‘elegant’ maxi-length hem. Available in sizes 6-24, it’s already been in high demand, with some sizes already selling out. The fashion giant has also flagged the item as ‘selling fast’ online.

Already racking up a number of reviews, fans say it fits true to size and also ‘hangs beautifully’. One shopper who bought the dress this month said: “Absolutely beautiful brown polka dot dress. Size 12 and it fits perfectly and hangs beautifully. I do feel very nice when wearing it, I would highly recommend. Oh and it looks much more expensive than its £49 price tag.”

And another added: “I bought this dress for my holidays. It’s a beautiful free flowing dress. Great fabric which is lightweight. Great for my body shape and I am only 5ft 2. can’t wait to wear on holiday in the warmer weather by the sea.”

“Really happy with this dress which has a very flattering cut and I especially like the sleeves,” wrote a third. “I’m sure I’ll get a lot of mileage out of this dress over the spring, summer and autumn. Like the colour too.”

But one suggested it may not suit all body shapes, adding: “I liked the look of this dress online and ordered in my normal size. It fitted but just didn’t suit me. I am quite barrel-chested and this style just emphasised that, so I am sending the dress back. I think this is better for slimmer bodies. The length on me (5’4″) was good and the fabric although quite thin felt nice. You would need a slip in my opinion.”

The brown polka-dot dress is reminiscent of the outfit that Julia Roberts wears to the races as Vivian in Pretty Woman, with longer sleeves and a more modern design. Her character wore the dress with a chunky tan belt and a cream hat, so if you’re heading to the Royal Ascot this year, it could be a fitting choice. Equally, if you’re heading to see Pretty Woman the Musical this year, it could be a great film-inspired outfit.

But M&S isn’t the only retailer potentially taking style inspiration from the much-loved 80s movie, with Nobody’s Child offering this Brown Polka Dot Halterneck Sabina Midi Dress for £79, which features a figure-skimming skirt and statement bow tie at the neck for a vintage feel. Meanwhile, River Island’s Brown Chiffon Spot Belted Swing Maxi Dress for £55 appears to be selling fast online.
