Flight attendant shares what triangle stickers onboard flights mean
If you work in a customer service job, you will understand how difficult it is when you get asked a question you don’t know the answer to.
But it can be so much worse when you’re getting asked the same question over and over again when it’s just not your department. Well, one flight attendant has had to deal with exactly that at her job and she has warned passengers to stop.
Destanie, who posts online as @destinieaaa, has warned that she will “Karen the Karens” who insist she must know how everything works in every department. The main questions that bother her are about vouchers given out by gate attendants – which she insists she knows nothing about because she works in flight.
In a video, which has gained more than 60,000 likes, Destanie explained: “My favourite thing is how many times I have to explain to passengers that as a flight attendant, I just work on the aeroplane.
“I don’t know anything else besides working on the aeroplane and passengers.” She went on to say that she is fed up of it after being asked questions about overbooking vouchers because she works in flight, not at the gate.
She explained: “[If they] oversell the flight, or they want people to go on the later flight and the gate agents will offer a crazy amount of money for you to take the later flight. People will fully scan on and get on the aeroplane and be like, ‘actually, are they still offering the voucher?’
“I’m like, I don’t know, I just work on the aeroplane. Like, I don’t even know where I am right now. This is the third destination I’ve been to today. I don’t know, you can get off and go ask if you want to.”
The attendant claims the same happens when people are given a voucher to use in the airport. Destanie claimed she’s had customers hand the voucher to her and expect her to help them when she can’t.
When she advises them to go to customer service, “they don’t understand that just because I work in customer service, it’s not that kind of customer service”.
TikTok users were left stunned by the clip as many praised her for being able to deal with difficult customers. One user said: “Thank you for telling these stories, especially given the current situation with AA. Y’all deserve so much more for what you do.”
Another added: “No lies detected – the struggle is real,” while a third wrote: “Flight attendant here – I can second all of this… I know nothing about seat upgrade fees and baggage allowance. I didn’t even know you paid extra to sit here.”
