With the seasons shifting and many of us dusting off last year’s summer wardrobe, it can be an ideal moment to sort through your old bits and clear out any garments that are no longer getting worn.

For this, plenty of people will turn to Vinted as a method to make some money on their clothes while ensuring they don’t end up in landfill. Renowned for its countless bargains on both brand new items with labels and pre-owned pieces looking for a new home, Vinted is a brilliant place to discover some affordable clothes, or to make some cash on items you no longer wear. But it can often feel daunting to use the platform before you’ve completed your first sale.

To assist, one professional Vinted seller has revealed three things you should avoid doing when selling an item on the platform.

“Here are three things that I would not do as a professional Vinted seller,” she said at the start of the TikTok video before she moved into her list of things to avoid.

Spray perfume

The professional seller advised people to not spray any items with perfume, regardless of how lovely you might think it smells.

“You might think that you’re making an item smell nice, but your customer might think you’ve worn the item and then not washed it,” she explained.

She continued to say: “And once it’s travelled for a couple of days in a plastic bag, perfume can actually end up smelling really musky.”

Add freebies

“I also would not add random freebies like sweets or stickers,” the seller said.

While an extra treat might sound like a good idea, she argued: “They cost your business money, and a lot of people shop on Vinted because they like the sustainability. And they don’t want extra items that are just gonna end up in the bin,” she explained.

Send multiple messages

Finally, the professional Vinted seller stated: “I don’t send messages chasing people to buy.”

She went on to shared that she uses an app called Zipsale which automatically sends a discount to anyone who’s liked one of her items on Vinted, saving her time from having to message potential customers.

“But I don’t waste time sending multiple messages, and I don’t want to come across as pushy,” she added.

The comments section was soon filled with viewers sharing their thoughts, with many agreeing with the points made.

“Omg, nothing worse than receiving an item that stinks of perfumed washing detergent,” one person commented.

“Nothing irritates me more than fabric conditioner. As much as I love second-hand items I can’t stand any scent,” another viewer remarked, while a third chimed in: “I can’t stand the smell of Febreze (weird, I know), and I wish people wouldn’t use it on clothes.

“Getting candy is cute but like i’m not going to eat random candy from a stranger so i just end up tossing it,” another viewer shared.

However, another person countered: “I disagree with the ‘freebie’ I always send a little thank you pack and the positive feedback I get shows people really appreciate the gesture. Some people say after a hard day it made them smile, so, works for me.”
