A woman has been left in an awkward situation after her partner, who she lives with, discovered that she intends to leave her home and pension to her sister and her baby instead of him in her will
A serious rift has blown up between a woman and her partner after he found out about updates made to her will.
The homeowner, who wishes to remain unnamed, says she’s been left questioning the future of her relationship after her partner, who she lives with, was furious after finding out she intended to leave her property to her siblings. The 31-year-old woman has decided that, in the event of her death, the home would be left to her siblings, while her sister’s unborn baby would receive her pension.
Her partner of five years would be left with her life insurance, according to her will wishes. She claimed on Reddit recently that after sharing the updates with her partner about her decisions, he wasn’t happy at all – believing the house should be left to him, should anything happen to her.
“After this though, I have had a heavy feeling in my heart as I am not so sure I want to do this anymore,” the woman said.
According to this unnamed woman, she currently pays for everything to do with the house, including bills, mortgage, and insurance, while her 32-year-old partner contributes by covering expenditures such as “holidays, food, luxuries, and general non-traceable expenses”.
The conflicted woman said: “He said he was not happy with this arrangement and the house should go to him in the event of our future mortgage. To clarify, we do not own a home together but are working towards it.”
She continued: “After this though, I have had a heavy feeling in my heart as I am not so sure I want to do this anymore. For context, he has his own flat which I lived in rent-free for three years however it is a family property and not his deed. For more context, I also earn substantially more than him (15k plus) so the majority of the mortgage allowance is from my salary. Not married and no children for context.”
A number of fellow Reddit users were left feeling uneasy about the long-term couple’s current set-up and encouraged her to revaluate their living situation.
One person commented: “So he has basically been funding your guys’ lifestyle, while you put a roof over his head. This may sound like a fair exchange of resources, but he has not, during that time, been able to make any investment of his own towards a personal dwelling, while your equity has continued to increase.
“He has been investing his money into you and your relationship, and while noble, your decision to leave your home to your sibling dismisses his role as your life partner in exchange for that of a tenant. You doubled down by getting cold feet about purchasing a home together.”
Another advised: “What you are effectively telling your partner is that he has to move out of his domicile if you die. If I were him I’d be upset too. My love dies and I’m kicked out of my house – what a c***** year that would be.”
