A woman shared how anxious she feels after taking revenge on her neighbour when he parked his vehicle in her spot for hours while she had no way of being able to contact him

A woman is ruing her decision to have a neighbour’s car towed away after it was parked in the spot she pays for at her new flat. After moving in and unpacking her belongings, she found the vehicle still occupying her space.

At her wits’ end and wanting to utilise her own parking spot, she “decided to get it towed”, a move that didn’t sit well with her neighbours. Another neighbour spotted the tow truck and informed her he knew the owner of the offending vehicle and would make them aware of what was going on.

But the neighbours weren’t home. The intervening neighbour was shocked she’d arranged for the car to be towed, stating they’d lived there for years and had never seen such a reaction.

Now, she fears potential backlash from the neighbours whose car she had towed, especially after one started “banging on [her] door loudly” around 11pm that night.

She took to Reddit to share her story and seek advice on how to defuse the situation.

The woman explained: “I just moved into a new apartment I bought this weekend, and realised my parking spot was taken when I got there at night. I waited for a few hours as I unloaded my stuff.

“It was still there after I was done. I decided to get it towed. Neighbour A saw the tow truck, came out and said he knew the owner. He went to the unit to alert them, but they weren’t home. Tow driver verified that I owned the spot and towed it.

“Neighbour A was upset and telling me, ‘I lived here for years, that’s crazy one tenant towing another tenant’.

She went on: “Neighbour B ([who lives] downstairs) came back around 11pm and came banging on my door loudly. I knew it could be because of the tow. I didn’t open [the door] and I just asked, ‘who is it’.”

But her neighbour “didn’t respond and kept banging” until he eventually revealed he was the neighbour whose car she had towed. He told her she should’ve parked next to it.

The woman informed him she “didn’t know” who the car belonged to and, after a while, the irate neighbour left.

She confessed: “I, at this point, feel bad about this. I’m also afraid of revenge or retaliation.”

Before having the car towed, she checked the rules for her building complex which stated “towing is the remedy” when people park in the wrong spot.

As the woman didn’t “know anybody in the community”, she couldn’t check who owned the car. Now, she’s desperate to make amends.

In a follow-up comment, she admitted: “In hindsight, whether I was right or wrong, I’m worried about what an upset neighbour might do.”

In the comments section, fellow Reddit users were eager to share their thoughts.

One person said: “I live in a complex that’s notorious for stealing parking spots except mine now after eight tows. They don’t f*** with my spot no more.

“I don’t give a f*** if I’m an a**hole, you park in my space and I’m gonna tow your a**. I’m not looking for you.”

Another commented: “NTA. You shouldn’t risk being towed yourself because B can’t follow the parking rules. It was B’s own fault. Get a camera and aim it at your car in case B decides to be stupid.”

Someone else added: “It’s done now, you will just have to take a breath and see what happens and deal with it as it comes. Likely they knew it was a vacant unit and thought there wouldn’t be a problem.

“Once neighbour A said he knew who the car belonged to then it might have been good to find a solution for a few hours, but since the truck was there I can see why you went through with it.”
