Angela Doocey has been told by police the suspect was likely driving a rental car
An Islington Council worker has suffered a broken tooth and lost movement in her arm following a ‘petrifying’ hit-and-run. Angela Doocey, 35, was cycling home to her flat in Highbury shortly after 2.30pm on Monday, September 8, when she was struck by a grey Peugeot in Barnsbury Street.
Along with cracking her tooth, the park manager suffered a broken elbow and considerable bruising on her leg. She has since had to visit an expensive private dentist, have plates inserted in her elbow and undergo intense physiotherapy in an effort to regain full motion in her right arm.
Speaking to MyLondon, Angela said the car came speeding from behind before it slowed and almost came to a stop next to her. The driver then clipped her front wheel, making Angela fall off the Lime bike, and sped off.
“I was petrified, I just froze,” she added. “I was thinking what’s going to happen next? But he just left me there on the floor despite seeing all the blood. It’s just horrible, I just want the person to be caught.”
Angela, who has worked in Barnard Park for 16 years and lived in Islington her entire life, has been told by police she was likely hit by someone driving a rental car.
She has been unable to work since the incident, which has led to her becoming restless while she waits to recover. “I’ve never not worked since college,” Angela continued. “I try to keep busy by getting out and about but it does have an impact on me.”
The Metropolitan Police has launched an appeal for witnesses in an effort to track down the attacker. A temporary incident sign has been put up in Barnsbury Street, encouraging people to call 020 7230 5925 if they have any information about the hit-and-run on Monday, September 8.
In particular, Angela is encouraging the woman who helped her after witnessing the crash to come forward, along with a couple who also assisted by moving and parking the bike in nearby Liverpool Road.
The reference number for the incident is CAD 4373/08Sep25.
