People online have been busy coming up with puns after spotting an Eminem lookalike competing for Italy in the men’s team archery event at the Olympic Games in Paris

The “Italian Eminem” has been spotted competing in the men’s team archery at the Olympics in Paris.

An image of Italian archer Mauro Nespoli has gone viral across different social media platforms, with people saying he bares a striking resemblance to the 51-year-old American rapper.

The @todayyearsoldig account on X (formerly Twitter) was one of several to share the snap of Nespoli lining up a shot in the team archery event. The caption read simply: “Italian Eminem #Paris2024.”

In the snap, Nespoli can be seen sporting a beard, a hat and a frowning glare – a look that has become synonymous with Eminem (real name Marshall Mathers) down the years. And predictably, people were quick to chip in with various Eminem-related puns.

One comment read: “If you have one shot or one opportunity…” Another said: “Hopefully his palms aren’t sweaty.” A third person wrote: “There’s vomit on his sweater already, nonna’s spaghetti.” A fourth said: “Yoooo it’s Marcello Mathers.” The post has been viewed more than 2.4million times, and the same picture was also widely shared on Reddit.

The image shows Nespoli competing in the men’s team archery quarter-final yesterday (Monday, July 29) when Italy’s team was defeated 6-2 overall by the French.

Nespoli previously won gold in the team archery event at the 2012 games in London, where the Italians defeated the United States in the final. He has two more Olympic medals to his name – a silver in the team event at the 2008 games in Beijing, and a silver in the individual event at the 2020 games in Tokyo.

Italy currently sit 8th in the medal table at Paris 2024 with two golds, three silvers and the bronzes. They are just one place behind Great Britain with two golds, five silvers and three bronzes.
