How good are you at quiz shows? Fans of ITV’s The 1% Club were left feeling very smart and pleased with themselves after they managed to answer the last question on an episode with ease
Fans of Lee Mack’s The 1% Club quiz series love playing along from home, all while frantically shouting the answer at the TV – and it’s particularly satisfying when they get it right.
The 1% Club is based on a set of questions which is then given to 1,000 members of the public, with their answers determining how tough the questions are deemed to be when they make it to the show. The contestants start by answering questions solvable by 90% of the population, and end with a difficult question the smartest 1% can answer.
So you can imagine how baffled viewers at home were when the last 1% question was deemed so easy they seemed confident they would have been able to answer it correctly. During the episode, which aired on April 6, six participants reached the final round – and a whopping five contestants answered it correctly. This is an uncharacteristically high number for the tough quiz show.
So let’s see if you can solve it. This was the question: “Starting on 25, the middle square, SEEN takes you to square 27. From there, NEW takes you to 20. From there, which square does SWEN take you to?
It’s not as confusing as it might seem at first glance, as a grid displaying numbers 1-49 was given for reference. However, you do only have 30 seconds to figure out the answer – the same as the contestants. You will find the answer at the bottom of the page, so see if you can manage to work it out.
It turns out many people on social media found the question easy to answer, with one person writing on X, formerly Twitter: “I got the 1% question right!! I think that was one of the easiest 1% ques they’ve had. Sadly I’d gone out earlier, so not in #the1percentclub but still chuffed I got that question right.”
Another added: “The Easiest 1% Question Ever! YES I did get it right…. I also went out at 80%. I always find the lower percentage questions easier which is crazy!! #The1percentclub.”
While a third wrote: “I got the 1%! Thought it was an easy one tonight. Never seen so many people get into the final and win. Well done to you all. Same time next week!”
The five contestants who got the answer correctly split the £94,000 prize evenly, giving them £18,800 each.
Answer: The final destination is 20. How does that work, you ask? It turns out SEEN and SEWN aren’t just random words, but correspond to compass directions. South, East, North and West.
The 1% Club airs on ITV tonight (April 13) at 9pm.
