Beauty editor Laura Mulley has found a bargain alternative for her usual favourite high-end mascara that has fast become a firm favourite – and it’s currently reduced to £8
Like a lot of make-up wearers, I’m fussy about my mascara. I want it all – length, lift, volume, definition with no clumping or smudging throughout the day – and I find that very few live up to the task.
One of my all-time favourites – and one that I rebuy over and over again – is Gucci’s Mascara L’Obscur. With a barrel-shaped silicone brush and (in my opinion) the perfect formula, it just makes my lashes look amazing, and seems to even get better the longer it’s been open.
At £31 though, it’s one of the pricier mascaras on the market – but I think I’ve found a great alternative for a fraction of the price.

L’Oréal Paris Volume Million Lashes Panorama Mascara launched earlier this year, and I admit that at first I wasn’t especially wowed by it. Fine, yes, but nothing that would make me swap from my current favourite. However, I took it away on a few short trips to save me from taking my expensive mascara, and I quickly grew to love it.
With a multi-size silicone brush that reaches every lash and a flexible formula to really stretch them up and out, this mascara makes the eyes look 1.4 times bigger (according to L’Oréal), while staying smudge-proof all day.
I found that is ticked all the boxes: it gives great volume and length and coats every millimetre of every lash, and keeps the hairs lifted and locked in place all day long without flaking or smudging.

It’s also a favourite with L’Oréal ambassador Kendall Jenner, who says in a Vogue Beauty Secret YouTube video, “This is one of my favourites…I’m obsessed,” revealing visibly longer, more defined eyelashes.
L’Oréal’s Panorama Mascara usually retails for £12.99 but I’ve found that it’s currently down to £8.20 on Amazon (and the brown version is even cheaper, at £7.48). It does appear that stocks of it are low on Amazon though, so the next best deal you can find is at LookFantastic, where it’s down to £10.39.
Give it a go – you won’t regret it!
