Renowned TV chef James Martin has shared his simple trick to getting perfect fried eggs every time – and it’s a rather unique method that shocked fellow celebrity chefs

Whether you prefer them sunny side up or sunny side down – fried eggs are a staple to any breakfast dish and now you can get them perfect every time thanks to a simple trick from celebrity chef James Martin.

Renowned TV chef James shared his easy method that will ensure your eggs will always look perfect and it even impressed fellow celebrity chefs with the little-known hack. The Saturday Morning chef was helping fellow chef Sabrina Gidda prepare her aloo gobi hash during the morning cooking show on ITV1 and he chipped in and cooked an egg for her while she prepared the bulk of the hash dish.

“Now I’m on egg duty,” the 50-year-old told viewers on the show as he put some butter in a frying pan ready to fry. However, he shocked Sabrina, and others on the show, when he vigorously shook the egg. Noting their surprise, James asked: “Do you know this trick?” As Sabrina simply responded with “no”, James explained: “If you shake the egg, then crack it in the middle, the yolk stays perfectly in the centre.” Although his first attempt wasn’t as perfect as he’d hoped as the yolk went off-centre. He then grabbed a second egg and said he needed to “shake it some more” and laughed off the blunder – and the second time of trying was a lot more successful.

He then jibed: “Every day is a school day” when Sabrina told him she had no idea about the trick. Viewers loved the simple technique, as the dish was posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, and one home cook wrote: “Cannot wait to try shaking the egg best tip ever.” “Watching you cook – looks so amazing,” a second added. Another popular way to cook eggs is to poach them, but this can always be tricky. However, one mum has shared an easy way to poach eggs and impress your breakfast guests. Jennifer Valentine claims to have found a foolproof technique that uses just a cup of water, a dash of vinegar and her microwave.

In a video shared with her 572.3K followers, Jennifer states: “The easiest poached egg you’ve ever made. Add one teaspoon of vinegar to a cup of cold water and then add your egg. Microwave for one minute,” she continues, before removing her egg from the microwave. “I put it on my sprouted grain toast and add a little salt and pepper,” she adds. Upon cutting into her egg, a golden, runny yolk oozes out: “That’s beautiful, look at that, perfect!”
