Renowned TV chef Jamie Oliver has shared his super easy way to rustle up the crispiest and fluffiest roast potatoes every time – and shares how simple it can be
Crispy roasties are one of the most versatile side dishes for any meal, and this secret trick will ensure they have the ultimate crunch every time.
It can be hard to get them right with a crispy coating and a fluffy middle, but luckily renowned TV chef Jamie Oliver has shared his foolproof method and secrets to ensuring they come out perfect every time. He took to TikTok to share his step-by-step method and claimed they will be “11/10” with his easy recipe and will definitely impress your dinner guests when you rustle them up. “Introducing the perfect roast potato… crispy outside and fluffy inside”, he started off the video.
He then showed the potatoes in the pan and said: “I’ve got them parboiling in here, in salted boiling water,” and explained he would cook them for around 10 minutes at around 180C to 190C before draining them in a colander when they’re “just thinking about breaking up”. The chef then added a teaspoon of oil and also red wine vinegar to a baking tray. He then shook the potatoes in the colander and said: “Look what I’m doing. See how I’ve beaten them up? I’m gonna cook these in an oven at about 180/190, which is about 350 Fahrenheit, over the period of about 50 minutes.”
He then took the potatoes out of the oven after 40 minutes and used a potato masher to gently press each of the roast potatoes down and explained: “‘Take the tray out of the oven after 40 minutes, place the potato masher on top, and then just let it pop and let the lovely starchy inside just puff out.” “Just do that around the whole tray and then pop it back in for another 10 minutes. Crispy and fluffy,” Jamie concluded and showed the finished dish with crispy and fluffy potatoes.
People loved his easy video recipe, with many hoping to recreate the dish themselves. “I always do my potatoes like this, and they’re always incredible,” one fan wrote, and another said: “Jamie, I did this and it worked a treat.” A third suggested: “Par boil potatoes put butter and put in air fryer for 30 min.”
