How to make chocolate orange shortbread
Ingredients
- 150g of unsalted butter
- 200g of plain flour
- 50g of caster sugar
- 50g of dark chocolate (70 percent cocoa)
- Zest of one orange (finely grated)
Kitchen equipment needed
- Square baking tin
- Baking paper
Method
Preheat the oven to 190C or Gas Mark 5. Take the butter out of the fridge and leave until it is at room temperature. Then, grease the baking tin and line it with baking paper.
In a bowl, place the butter, flour, sugar and finely grated zest of half an orange. Mix it together by rubbing the mixture together between your fingertips.
Square and pat the dough but do not knead it. Then, push it onto the lined baking tin and spread it until it is one centimetre thick.
Prick the dough all over with a fork and then bake in the oven for 20 minutes or until a light golden colour. Once out of the oven, dust a bit more caster sugar on top while it’s still warm, then let the shortbread cool down.
As the shortbread is cooling, melt the dark chocolate in a heatproof bowl over a pan of gently simmering water, then take it off the heat.
Slice the shortbread into 12 fingers and drizzle the dark chocolate over them. Grate the remaining orange zest finely over the top and your delectable chocolate orange shortbread is ready to be served.
