The mother of missing Jay Slater has issued a heart-wrenching statement a month since her son disappeared on Tenerife. Monday (July 15) is four weeks since the morning the 19-year-old from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, vanished in the remote northwest of the island.

The teenager had been enjoying a night out with friends at the Papagayo nightclub, in the island’s party hotspot, Playa de las Americas. From there, Jay was invited to an Airbnb in a secluded corner of north-west Tenerife – almost 40km from where he had been staying with mates, in Los Cristianos.

Jay left the Airbnb on foot and headed north, deeper into the Rural Parc de Teno, his last known location. On Sunday afternoon (July 14), Jay’s mum Debbie Duncan released a new statement on the search for her missing son, the Mirror reported.

Debbie said: “As we approach four weeks of our beautiful Jay’s disappearance, we cannot put into words the heartache we are suffering as a family. Jay is a typical young man who loves life with a bright future ahead of him.

“This month will mark the end of his three year apprenticeship with the world at his feet. He is loved by everyone and has a close bond with his family and many many friends.

“As a family we would like to thank the public for their continued support and well wishes. We would also like to thank LBT Global, the British Embassy and the Police who are doing all they can to support us.”

She added: “We would also like to say that we are aware of the awful comments and conspiracy theories that are filling social media. These theories are hindering the people trying to help us in their investigations here in Tenerife and are vile to see as a family.”

“He is a loving son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend to so many. He is such a popular boy and this is very distressing for us all to read.”

If anyone has any useful information, the family has urged them to get in touch with LBT Global via delta. [email protected] or anonymously at Crimestoppers.
