Jellycat fans have been left mortified after seeing how much money the Selfridges collab is commanding on resale webistes such as Vinted, just over 24 hours since it went on sale
Many Jellycat fans were left gutted yesterday when they didn’t manage to get their hands on the Selfridges x Jellycat collab. The adorable yellow bag, which has a signature Jellycat amuseables face on it, left fans of the department store desperate to get their hands on one for themselves. However, when they joined the virtual queue from the comfort of their own home, many were faced with over 27,000 other customers in front of them.
Someone took to X to write: “Selfridges x Jellycat. 27,434 customers are trying to buy this Jellycat bag. Selfridges is celebrating 25 years of Jellycatting in their store,” not being able to believe how big the hype was.
TikToker @kseniia.journey posted a video of them in the store on launch day, captioning the video: “Jellycat has just released the new Amuseables Selfridges Bag in London to celebrate 25 years of Jellycat and Selfridges”.
The gorgeous yellow bags, which actually have room for other Jellycats inside, retail at £48 each, and are similarly adorable to the Space NK lock, which was launched earlier this year.
Many people could be seen purchasing several of the bags, and someone commented on the video saying that they were told by staff that it was “maximum three per person”.
Someone else said: “To resell for more money cause they’re limited edition,” and this is what many scalpers have already done.
On Vinted, sellers have already added at least £20 onto the price they purchased the bag for, with some asking for £100 and over for the limited edition toy.
One woman took to X to seethe about resellers, penning: “By far the ugliest Jellycat made but, I think the downfall in society is people buying things to just resell.
“Limited edition and now ‘sold out’ so Tina can make £20 having spent the morning queuing, listing and taking to the Post Office to send. Just absolute scruffs of the world”.
It’s not the first product this has happened with, either, as many have slammed resellers for hiking the prices of the Christmas range for no reason other than the fact that they managed to be in the right place at the right time to get their hands on several.
Some are selling the Snow Suit Bunny on eBay for upwards of £80, and some were doubling the £30 price tag of Plum Robin when he completely sold out after launch.
In fact, Senior Social News Reporter Danielle Kate Wroe wrote about the fact that scalpers really ruin the fun of Jellycat collecting, sharing: “Gone are the days of being a casual collector and occasionally dropping into your local Jellycat stockist to just ‘browse’. If you want one of these adorably soft toys, you must have a game plan – especially if you’re ordering online.
“I’ve been collecting Jellycats for almost 15 years now, and while I’m happy the brand has seen a boom in success, I can’t help but feel a little bit annoyed about the number of resellers who are trying to charge £300 for a teddy that once cost them less than £40”.
It’s good news for those who want the plush yellow bag; however, as on the Selfridges website, they promise that the Selfridges x Jellycat bag will be returning due to “high demand”.
